THE FOLLOWING, from Mrs. Sarah J.
Bale, - editor of Godey's Lady's 13oat, will be read
with interest, and its truthfulness is practically en
dorsed by thousands :
THE WHEELER WILSON SEWING•MACHINE.—
The benefits of this wonderful invention increase
every year of its trial. There are no dangers at
tending its use, but real pleasure, as well as profit,
in its results. Indeed, it seems to realize the power
of good fairies, such as children love and believe in
-their elders often regret that they have outlived this
.pleasant faith—more than any other of the labor.
.saving inventions. The Sewing-Machine comes into
- the heart of home ; it helps in the domestic circle ;
it has an important influence on family comfort and
-social happiness. No wonder that good men are
Willing to sound its praises, that "poets, orators,
-divines, philosophers, and economists hav, descant.
•ed upon its bearings on social interests and the des
'tiny of woman." It is worthy of this praise. ;
This houSehold•helper, such a one as comes from .
the manufactory of Wheeler Sr. Wilson, in the per
leanest; of finish and performance of all kinds and
varieties of stitehing, is the . Queen of Sewing-Ma
chines, which we wish could be introduced into
-every home where women are found. .

NOW TEAT THE ELECTION IS OVER, and
the'State has given a big majority for the one or the

consequently we feel a little joyous, and we would
recommend all other friends of the buceessful can.

TAxATION.--Beint governed is a costly
luxury all the world over. Englishmen pay at the
rate ,of thirteen dollars and twenty-five cents per
head for being governed ; the Swiss pay but one
dollar and seventy cents per head for the same con
venience. The French pay a little more than ten
dollars per head, and the Hollanders pay without
grumbling, twelve dollars and a quarter. It is a
little uncertain yet what it is going to cost us to be
governed, but the probabilities are that the bill will
be "steep's But we should not complain. We
enjoy very many blessings and advantages, not least
among, whioh is the Brown Stone Clothing Hall of.

THE ELECTION REV: MRS.—The greatest
anxiety was manifested yesteiday to hear the election
returns; from the various counties throughout the
State. The office of The Press was besieged by an'en
thusiastic crowd eager for the "latest." Among the
despatches received WEB one announcing the filet
that the cheapest and beat fall garments in the
country are manufacturediat he Palatial Clothing
Emporium of Granville Stokes, No. 609 Chestnut

BBWING MAerialEs.—Grover it - Baker,

manufacturing to large demand, every description of
these great economies, at prices remarkably reduced.
The names of this liberal and enterprising firm have
grown identical with the popularity, improvement,
and increased cheapness of the great invention, and
a Grover & Baker Sewing Machine is a quo
myme for accuracy, completeness, and cheapness.
The machines of their manufacture are equip.

The undersigned, as General Subscription Agent, is
authorized by the Secretary of the Treasury to continue
the sale of this popular Loan, and TEN DAYS public
notice will be given of discontinuance. • .
ABOUT TWO HaNDLIED MILLIONS remain unsold,
and this amount is scarcely sufficient 'to furnish a basis
for the circulation of the National Banking Associations
now being formed in every part of the Country. But a
short time must elapse before this loan iewholly ab
sorbed. the demand from Europe, Germanyespecially,
being quite active. . •
As it Is well known that the Secretary of the Tree
sorry has amplo and nnfaiin g resources in the duties on
imports, internal revenues, and in the issue of interest
bearing Legal yonder Treasury Notes, it is nearly cer
tain that it will not be necessary for him for along time
to come to issue farther permanent Loans. the interest
and principal of which are Payable in Gold.
These considerations must lead to the prompt cousin-
Sinn that the time is not far distant when these " Five-
Twenties," 'will sell at a handsome premium, as was the
result With the Seven-thirty" Loan, when it was all
sold, and could no longer be subscribed : for at par.
This is a ..
the interest and. principal' being payable in eoin. thud
yielding about MORT per cent. per anzam at the present
premium on gold.
It is called- "Eive-Twenty," from the fact that whilst
the Bonds may rnn for twenty years, yet the Govern
. - -
went has the right to pay them off in gold at par, at any
time after jive years.
The interest is paid half yearly on the first days of No
vember and Mar.
Subscribers can have Coupon Bonds which are PM
ble to bearer and issued for $5O, 8100, $5OO, and $l,OOO,
or. Regisiered Bonds of similar denominations, and in
addition $5.000 and 810.000.
These "Five-Twenties" cannot be taxed by States,
cities, towns, or counties, and. the Government tel on
them is only one and a half per cent, on the amount of
income, when the income exceeds six hundred dol
lars per annum. Income from all other investments.
such as mortgages, 'railroad stocks, bonds, &c., mus
Pay from three to five per cent. tax on the income.
Banks and Bankers throughout the country will. con
tinue to dispose of the Bonds, and all orders by mail or
otherwise properly attended to.
The Treasury Department having perfected arrange
ments for the prompt delivery of Bond!, Subscribers
'will be enabled to receive them at the time'of subscri
bing, or at farthest in FOBS' days. This arrangement
will be gratifying to parties who want theßonds on pay
