CAUSES of ExrarfriON.—One man was
exempted yesterday on account of "chronic lipitu
alio," and another of "chronic periostitla of tibia."
It is to be hoped that the poor fellows haven't got
it very bad. One man claimed exemption in the
First district because a military uniform was not
becoming. to him. The Commissioner decided that
excuse insufficient, as both military uniforms and
civilian suits are got up in a style to become every
body by Granville Stokes, Merchant Tailor, No.

TAILORING AS A FINE ART.—Ever since
the art of tailoring was commenced in a rude way at
Eden, by sewing fig leaves together, it has been
conceded that the tailor had much to do with the
]raking of the man. We claim that he has every.
thing to do with it, so far as personal appearances
go, and that a Chevalier Bayard or an Admirable
Crichton could no more cut a figure in the world
'Without the aid of his tailor, than a lady could shine
+without the help of crinoline, rich stuffs, and jewels.

his mere victim and his guy. To secure that skill

PEMOVAL„-qOHN 41 BAKER,
Wholesale Druggist, has removed to 718 MARKET
Street. Particular attention is asked to JOHN G.
BAKER ,k CO.'S COD-LEVER OIL. Having increased
facilities in this new establishment for manufacturing
and bottling., and the avails of fifteen years' experience
in the business, this brand of Oil has advantages over
all others, and recommends itself. Constant supplies
are obtained from the fisheries, fresh, pure, and sweet,
and receive the most careful personal attention of-the
original proprietor. The increasing demand and wide
spread market for it make its fig ures low, and afford
great advantages for those buying in. large-quan
tities. - .an4-dtf
