    CITY
IISiPOItTANT NOTICE BY WENDEROTH &
Taimon, LATE BROADBENT fc 00.-- This
well
known Photographic establishment, Nos. 912, 914,
and 916 Oheatnut street, has given notice that after
the first of July next, all their negatives taken prior
to July Ist, 1862, will be liable to be effaced. Per
eons wishing duplicates from them should, there
fore, apply at *nom.
This firm has lately added a department to their
business devoted exclusively to the photographing
of rural scenery, and they now solicit orders for
photographic views of country seats, horses, nett/ e,
and out-door views generally. Their rates, for this
extra branch, are quite moderate.
FINE GROCERIES FOR THE COUNTRY.—
Messrs. Davis and Richards (formerly 0. H. Matt
son), dealers in fine family groceries, Arch and Tenth
streets, are now supplying numerous orders for the
country. Hotel keepers, proprietors of Summer Re..
sorts, and private citizens, will find, at this aelebra
ted old establishment, the choicest stock of Groce
ries in the city. All goods bought, ate carefully
packed, and delivered at any of the (idiots free of
charge.
INTERCEPTED DESPATCHES FROH GENE
RAL LEE TO SENT . DAYIS-12 o'clock, Midnight.—
My advance has entered Philadelphia. The Conti
nental Hotel and Charles Stokes Sr. Co.'s extensive
Ready Made Clothing Store is in ashes ! 2 o'clock
A. hare just learned that my advance has not
reached Philadelphia, but is in Harrisburg. Go
vernor Curtin is a prisoner. Still later.—The peo
ple of Harrisburg are in great consternation on ac
count of the near approach 01 our troops. We have
Necked Chambersburg. '6 o'clock A. M.—My
command is all at Harper's Ferry preparatory -to
march northward. A great movement towards
Chambersburg is now on foot. 10 o'clock .A. M
I shall move my headquarters from Fredericksburg
to-morrow to join the main body of the army now
near Harper's Ferry. "
(Signed) It. E. LEE, Major General.
To his Excellency J. LA.-via, Esq., Richmond.
IMPORTANT TO THOSE ABOUT PURCHA
SING SEIVIIMMACHINES.—Experience proves there
are two good sewing machine stitches—the Grover
& Baker stitch and the shuttle or lock stitch.. Now,
neither of these stitches is best for all finds of work.
Each has its peculiar merits, and excellencies, and
a machine making the one or the other stitch will
be best in any given case according to the drawn-
Iltanees under which it is to be employed. Purcha
sers of machines should therefore be careful to visit
those establishments-where perfect machines of both
kinds are sold—where there is no motive to recom
mend one above another at the expense of the buy
er, but where both machines are• recommended and
Bold each upon its actual merits, and with full
planation and understanding of their peeuliar quali
ties. At such establishments the purchaser can se
feet intelligently, after trial of both, the machine
best suited to his or her wants, and much vexation
and disappointment be saved. We are not inform
ed as to other establishments, but there is - one in
this city—that of Grover & Baker S. M. Co.; 730
Uhestnut street, where both machines are sold, and
Where purchasers can eelect after trial the one best
suited to their wanti.
A GENERAL MOVEMENT ALONG THE
BOnann.—The rebs seem to have concluded upon
,
the expedient.of making a regular series of raids
along the border. Maryland, Western Virginia,
Penniylvania and Indiana have been invaded, and
waste and plunder have been extensively practised.
We have heard that the rebel Colonel Jenkins, the
hero.of the Chambersburg raid, boasted that he was
Coming to Philadelphia, and that he intended to pro.
cure a lot of new uniforms at the Brown Stone
Clothing Hall of Rockhill & Wilson, .Nos. 603 and
605 Chestnut street, above Sixth. To save Secesh
the trouble of coming so far upon such an errand,
the uniforms have been Bent to him ; but with a
man in each of them, and a musket in the hands of
the wearer, to make things as snug and comforta
ble as possible.
flow TO DO 6 1 0_0EL-3'ost people, from
theireflective faculties not being brought into
pig:hardly understand what doing good means,
till, perchance, they stumble upon a good action,
when the presiding judge, Conscience, gives in .his
Verdict of " all right." We endeavor to do good in
our .humble way, by advising our readers to buy
their clothing at the "Philadelphia Temple of Fash
ion," No. 609 Chestnut street, Granville Stokes.
Tim SPIRITUALISTS will be accompanied
by Willard & Grove's Band, on their pie-nic to Flo
rence Heights;' to-morrow. A few more tickets
may be had. See advertisement, or at the boat in
the morning.
