SECRET CABAL
TALE OP UNDERGROUND LIFE IN
WASITIItiGTON
DR. J. H. ROBINSON'S new romance with the above
title (unquestionably the most powerful and intensely
interesting story the Rebellion has pet suggested) is now
ready in the NEW YORK MERCURY for February. 28.
The machinations and intrigues of a large and compre
hensive secret organization, hostile to the Union, are de
veloped in." Cepherine ;" and the tale, more extraordi
nary in its details than the most ingenious devices of fic
tion, is founded on realities. It is vigorously written,
full of incident . and. adventure, and has the great merit
of being eminently original. The author has chosen a
new field for the display of his genius, and has suc
ceeded in producing a Romance which will undoubtedly
create a profound sensation thronghout the country.
There is an tmderplot to the dark drama of the Rebellion
which has been heretofore as a sealed book to the general
public. In this story Dr. Robinson breaks the seal, and
gives the world a glimpse of the mystery.
The NEW YORK MERCURY for February ES is on sale
at all News Depots. Price Five Cents. - mb2,21

ST. VALENTINE'S DAY.
TILE NEW TORE: :MERCURY
for Febrnary 9.8 contains a magnificent wood engraving,
after an elaborate picture drawn by DARLEY, illustra
tive of the different phaees, tender and comic, of that
TRUE LOVER'S JUBILEE,
the Festival of St. Valentine. In the design, its dis
tinguished originator has surpassed himself. The group
ings are wonderfully effective, and the faces almost seem
to speak. The central scene is a perfect study; fall of
character, and eminently original. Ta the vignettes
which surround the large cartoon, Cupid's Holiday is
presented in various aspects. There are gi impses of tho
Camp, the Cottage, the Kitchen, Ste., and the engraving,
which occupies one entire side of- the NEW YORK
MERCURY, cannot fail to attract the admiration of con
noisseurs of the Fine Arts, as well as interest and
amuse thelyublic at large. - -

this magnificent picture is now ready at all News De
