CITY ITEMS. PRAYER FOR COLLECIES. — WO have been requested to call attention to the fact that this (Thursday) is the day set apart by the Presbyterian churches of this city as a day of special prayer for colleges and the youth of the Church, and we are pleased to state, in this connection, that a meeting for conference and prayer, with reference to this subject, will be held at 1g o'clock this evening, in the Peun Square Presbyterian Church, Broad street, nbove Chestnut (Rev. J. M. CroweU's). In conse quence of the Inclement weather on Sunday, the pulpit notices of this meeting were necessarily limited, and, as the subject le one of general interest to the Christian community, we,therefore take coma- Sion in this way to call attention to it, and have no doubt that the meeting will be largely attended. IMPORTANT TO TIIJ LADIES—GEORGE'S TATeerr RAZE CRIALPER.—We have tried this little article, and find that it will wave the hair beauti fully in lees than live minutes. No lady's toilet complete without one. For sale by Militia h 13en vett, No. 11 North Fourth street, at wholesale, and by K. K. Stewart, 732 Chestnut street, and John Mustlu, Jr., 808 Chestnut street, and S. E. corner of Arch and Seventh streets, at retail. STE/or - BERRY WlNE.—Haying had our attention called to this article by Mr. Albert 0. lioberts, the well-known grocer, corner of Eleventh and Vine streets, as being a very superior wine, fully equalling the celebrated Malmsey Madeira, we are enabled, after testing it, to recommend it With confidence to our readers as a firat, rate article, of undoubted purity, and one that, by physicians, Is said to be admirably adapted for medicinal pur poses, We may add, however, that the mere fact of its being advertised by Mr. Roberta (see our adver tising columns) is sufficient guarantee of its merits, as those who deal with him—and there is legion— have reason to place the most implicit confidence in everything he recommends. His entire stock of tine groceries is of the choicest and most tempting cha racter, and is well worthy the attention'of all who are particular in catering for the wants of the inner nian. Lt. FINFI STOCK of GROCEIHES.—The Popular old stand of Mr. 0. H. Mattson, dealer in fine family groceries, Arch and Tenth streets, has long been the favorite resort of our citizens to ob tain the choicest and finest articles in the Grocery line, both foreign and domestic. One peculiarity of ibis stook is that his immense trade enables him to have it constantly renewed, giving it a peculiar freshness at all seasons of the year, which those who are accustomed to living well never fail to appre ciate. 'We are authorized to state that he has just received a fine lot of new Salmon, in the usual va riety of styles, to which we invite the attention of our readers. HARTMAN'S CONCERT AT I'fIIISICAL FUND IlAr.r..—We aro requested to state that a limited number of tickets for Mr. Hartmann's concert, to be given on Monday evening, March 2, in aid of various eocietlea of utility to our soldiers, are now on sale nt Andrea musio store, 1104 Chestnut street, Gould's music store, Seventh and Chestnut atreets, and Winner's musics store, 933 Spring Garden street. 2t POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE EXAMINATION.— The regular winter examination at the, Polytechnic began yesterday, and will be continued through the evc ek. The spring session Is announced to begin on Monday next. SoLomis in Camp or on the field, exposed to changes of the weather, should have a box of s' Brown's Bronchial Troches" in the pocket, in readi- Less upon the first appearance of a Cold, Cough, or ,Sore Throat, which they are sure to relieve. WINTER CLoTruNci I WINTER CLOTHING 1 WirerEn CLarittrio.—Charles Stokes & Co., under the Continental Hotel, are now offbring their stock of Winter Clothing, which consists of the most de sirable goods in the market, and all made up in the latest styles and lathe best manner, at reduced prices, in order to make room for their spring stook. The garments Bold at this establishment, as the continued patronage of thousands attests, are all of the bestima- Serials, and are sold at prices within the reach of all, and as low as tirsbelass goods can be sold. Par ties wishing winter or early spring garments can now avail themselves of bargains, as our heavy goods Must be closed out in a few weeks. The public are Invited to call at Charles Stokes & Co.'s, under the Continental Hotel, Philadelphia. POST OFFICES, PAST AND PRESENT.— The new poet office is farther west than any post office In the city ever was. In old times this im portant department of the Government service was located in Front street, and the city itself extended but a very few squares beyond that street. Trade is gradually working its way westward, Messrs. & Wilson having led the van in enterprise by erecting their famous Brown-Stone Clothing Ball, at Nos. 603 and 605 Chestnut street, above AN OLD STYLE REV,IVED.—An exchange . says the " Dickeys , ' are coming into vogue again. They have been out of fashion for twenty years. This summer their use is to. be revived as a matter Of economy. Two plain Adria and a half dozen dickeys are equal in point of utility to six shirts. IsTecessity is the parent of this revival. For the in formation of those concerned, we would state there Will be entire new spring styles introduced this sea lion by Granville Stokes, the Fashioner and Clothier, 609 Chestnut street, Philadelphia. To Tun Errfmwm of , For some time past, I hare heen'eulleitod by the Medi cal Faculty of this city to add to my "Schiedam Aro matic Schnapps" business the bottling of PURE BOUR BON WHISKY, which could be relied ou by the Medical profession. I would have acceded to their request some time since, but found it difficult to procure a pure article. After considerable difficulty and delay, I have arranged with two distillers in Bourbon county for a regular supply. I have also located an agent in Louisville, Ky., for the purchase of BOURBON WHISKY, direct from the distillers, when offered for sale In that market. The 'Whisky will be put up in my Schnapps bottles, and packed in cages of one dozen each, with a Ste simile of my signature on the label.
