Owing to this, large arrival our hospitals are now 'filled
_to their utmost capacity; in fact they ere hardly capable
of.meeling the present demands made upon them:' It is
but justice to state that in 'addition to the many offal -4
made to Dr. King. several fire companies have offered
their buildings for the accconnedotiort of the notlente.
The Independence Hose Com pan y have offered their capa
cious building, and the wounded who arrived last night
at the Baltimore depot were conveyed to private resi
dences in the neighborhood, and the fire companies need
every exertion to contibnte to their comfort. The Phi
ladelphia Engine had a number of ambulances in revile
then.

REPUBLICAN CITY CONVENTION.----Mr.
James R. Bi Mem, of the Twentieth ward, submitted
the following preamble and resolutions 'lt the , meeting of
the Republican City Convention, on Wednesday night,
which, after being freely discussed, and amended is
some particulars, were sent to a special committee for re
vision. We print them in compliance with a request of
several members of the convention.
Whereas, The Republican Convention of the Olt, of
Philadelphia has at all times shown an earnest desire
that such nominations should be made for the various
offices to be felled by the people, on the second Totesday
of October next, as would be acceptable to all the voting
element in opposition tO the Democratic party . ;
And whereas, Our reasonable demand in this respect;`
has been contemptuously disregarded, and the generous
spirit shown by us throughout, to harmonize, designedly
frowned upon by a so. called National Union City Con.'
settler ;
And whei.eas, 'I he nominees of said National Union City
Convention are responsible for the acts of their dele
gates, said delegates -being their servants, selected by
them to perform their bidding: therefore,
Resolved, That, holding the nominees of the said Con
vention responsible for the insult offered to as in the
nominations as made, the Republicans of the city of Phi
ladelphia feel relieved from any oblig Mons to sustain or
vote for either of the candidates nominated by said Con
vention
RaoNed, That the said so•called National Union City
Convention was a fraud practiced upon the legal voters
of the city of Philadelphia, inasmuch as, whilst ft pro
fessed to be a Convention without regard to party, it was
created and controlled by a clique of Know-Nothing
drmegopues and peliticans, who, having become ob
'noxious to all honest voters, now seek to 'moose them•
selves neon the people under the specious name of .Na-
Copal Union men.
Resolved, That whilst we have no doubt there are
many Yallandighams and Ingersoll. among us, we at the
same time believe that the grt at mass of the Democratic
party are sincerely devoted to the Union, the Constitu
tion, and the laws; this they have shown by freely fur
nishing to the patriotic army now in the field their fair
proportion of men ; and we hereby declare as contemptible
and wicked the effort of the partisan and Know-Nothing
Convention, recently assembled, to arrogate to itself all
the patriotiam and loyalty of the city of Philadelphia.
Resolved, That the resolution -paseied by said Convert?.
Mr, calling upon the President to remove from office any
Federal official who will not signify in writing his deter
mination to use all his personal and official influence '. to
elect its partisan nominees," is an insult:to the President
of the United States, inasmuch as it demands of him to
become a partisan, and to stigmatize as disloyal all the
members of the Democratic party, constituting, as they
do, perhaps half the'votere of our city; at a time, too,
when ell political parties in the loyal States should be re
cognized as true to the Government, and encouraged to
support the Administration in Its efforts to enforce the
laws and suppress the rebellion.. -
_ - -
Resolved, That, in View of the action of the “Know-
Nothing Convention," the partisan character of its no
minees, and its atrocious resolution, we rec .mmetal the
Republicans of the cfly of Philadelphia to 'cast their
votes in such way as shall be best calculated to rebuke
and frustrate the machinations of those who affect to ro
pudiate and duple° them.
THE NORTHERN HOME FOR FRIEND
LESS CHILDREN.—It is a refreshing relief from the
perusal of reports of investigating committees, charged
with the detection and expoiure of disloyal treads upon the
depleted treasury of our now groaning Government. to tarn
to the disinterested and unwearying efforts of a loss con
spicuous though no less valuable clews of the CODIMCNICY,
whose exertions are directed to the relief ofthe sick and
wounded heroes of the nation, or to the protection of the
friendless or deserted children of the State.
The ninth annual report of the Northern Home for
Friendless Children, of which we have received proof
sheets, is ono of those pleasing public documents that no
one can fail to be interested in reading. It gives the
whc le rationale of the working of that noble institution,
ono riff rds many gratifying ilinetrations of the !emcees
that bas attended it, as well as an admirably concise and
comprehensive statement by the treasurer, and other de
tails of a highly gratifying and suggestive nature—all
which we commend to the attention of ite annual contri
butors. 'The number of children received during the
Year was 230; placed out, indentured, er returned to re
latives, 211; now at the Home, 205; the largest number
ever in the institution at one time. The average annual
cost of suppliing each child is less than forty dollars,
and it is believed that in no institution in this country,
or abroad, are children more happy and contented. or
cared for more tenderly and !ern' expensively than et the
Northern Home. The building, at Brown and Twenty
third streets, is always a model of cleaulinees and neat
ness; and those in charge of it are uniformly civil. rkis
being an unendowed institution, thebenevolent are, invited
to perpetuate the useful disposition of their estates by
tusking bequesls to this and similar truly charitable as
sociations. A legacy of five hundred dollars, by Hrs.
Mary Blame, is acknowledged in the report. rho pre
sent need of fonds for Ito support is necessarily increased
by the large number of soldiers' children that have been
there furnished with a home during the *Wince of their
fathers at the seat of war.
•
- . .
It hat( often b, en a matter of surprise to us that mere
of our Wire business and professional •men who sleek a
1 . hobby" to beguile their Wen a home do not adopt
come such establishment as tte Northern Home, whereby
they would obtain the needed rent and recreation for
their ruir.ds by the very change of the current of their
thoughts, end would be at the same time rendering an
amotml of service to the community in which they live
which no human being can compote.

be followiag is a statement of facts in reterence to my
condition and astonishing cure of Epilepsy :
• For flve years previous to my knowledge of Prof. 0.
H. Bolles' .discovery of the therapeutic administration
of Galvanism, Magnetism, and ether modifications of
Electricity for the cure of all acute and chronic diseases,
I had been eeverely eMloeed with Epileptic Fite of the.
moat obstinate character ' and bad abandoned all hopes.
of over being cured, as Ihad for yetirs tried the trent.'
meat and received the counsel of the most eminent Medi
as! Men - of the State, with a view of obtaining relief, if
any conk) be found among the Old Schools ; but ail my
efforts were unavailing, and, therefore, all have were
abandoned, es I then knewof no greater skin for the cure
of obstinate cane thin in the Old Schools. About six
months ago my mind was tented to investigate the new
discovery of Prof. 0. H. Bolles, 1220 Walnut Street,
and, after noticing several certificates of cures which
were published, and some from moons with whom r was
acquainted and knew them to be reliable men ; I was in
ducts! to call on the Professor and obtain his opinion of •
my case. After he had examined me about ten minutes,
be frankly informed me th at he could cure me, and
offered to give •me a written -warrantee of a complete
cure, and, in case of a failure, to charge me 'nothing.
This at first seemed an fmposeibility ; but the frankness
and earnestness of the Professor. convinced me of his
scientific accuracy in the diagnosis of my case. He die
closed all my sufferings and symptoms for five years past
aa well as I knew them myself. I will here state, for the.
good of humanity, and eepeoiallY those sufforiag as / was,
that lam perfectly mired. I further would state that
mere than four months have Masted since my cure, and
I have bad no symptoms, and, therefore, feel confident
that lam 'cured. I shall take - pleasure in being referred
of at anytime by any one suffering as I was, and any in
formation of my condition previous to my care will be
freely given to any one at 1542 North Thirteenthatieet,
