Stilling, B, 67th A Chicken Story and a Chicken APPEAL.—The private generosityof onr citizens to the aick and wounded soldiers among us is as marked in its expression as frequent in occurrence. The sufferings and, enxiout vicissitudes through which the poor follows pass must enilst tbe kneenest sympathies of every man, the organization of whose heart is a whit finer than solo leather ; bnt, after all, it is a merciful provision of nature that slowly blunts the sharpest edge of our sensiblHtiea, and tbus enables us to discharge, without nervous falter ing, the painful duties that devolve upon us. Those, however, whose eyes have feasted, fer a lifetime, on green fields and varying skies—never meeting mortality in a form more horrible than a dead bird—to whom the ter rors and terrible results of war are known only by news paper letters and lists of casualties—these honest crea tures atill keep the tenderness of their natures alive to the lightest phase of suffering; and their efforts, prompt ed by such strength of sympathy, are Bometlmss marked By a generosity verging upon extravagance. But, Heaven lie thanked for such anxious kindness and profuse libe rality! They call ont everything that is nobleßt within as in response. . A pleasant instance, in Illustration of the almost over ear* bestowed upon the sick that are in our midst came under our notice a day or two since. An old lady from the country visited the city with the intention of “doing”,tbe hospitals—a bustling, motherly,kind-heart ed toul, who bad faithfully discharged all the duties of domestic life, yet rounding them off with the genial ten derness of a warm and affectionate nature. The old lady, mayhap,.was not uninfluenced by the ordinary ca riosity that is charged, by bachelor traducers of the sex, as being the controlling influence, it not the chief actu ating motive, of the female character; the hospitals were unexplored wonders, tempting her scrutiny; and it may not Be unlikely, too, that the romantic sympathy which younger woxen cherish for courage, especially, when, in defiance of danger, it has brought suffering upon its gal lant possessor, quickened the blood even in these aged veins. At any rate, the old lddy adjusted her spectacles and smoothed her apron, preparatory to a minute exami nation of our refuges for suffering heroes. She began with She most perfect specimen of neatness and order—the hos pital attached to the Volunteer Refreshment Saloon, in charge of that indefatigable friend to the soldiers, Mr. . Brown. Bhe thought that a moderate establishment of this klndwcnld he an easy initiation. Innocentrußticity 1 Sim ple-hearted unsuspectingneas of a life passed amid scenes of happiness scad peace! The third bed utterly demo lished all the dear old lady’s self-control. She had stood the previous ones pretty well. It is true, that second man—he with thedarSvimmed, sunken eyes, and pinched features—made his visitor’s Ups tvitcb strangely when, in mute acknowledgment of her kindness, he laid his wasted hand softly against hers. But this third fellow, with only a stump of a leg, and a still less stump of a Uf e—somehow the spectacles grew dim while she gazed at him, and they needed so much cleans ing care at the hands of tbeajdon that said portion of female paraphernalia had its immaculate emoothnees and whiteness horribly rumpled and soiled At least three hundred and fifty questions were flans at the patient as to the poignancy of his safferinge, and three hundred and fl’ty more to elicit all bis wants. But the assiduity of phyßicisn and nurse had not left to the poor fellow the privilege of a single want—except , a fevered whim that happened then to present itself—for chicken broth. ■Will it be believed that !he next day brought to Mr. Brown sixteen live chickens 7 Sixteen lire chickens for one man’s broth ! But not for one man. This same broth ia very often craved by bot lips and diseasedly fastidious stomachs. Mr. Brown baa received the gift with joy; hag con-, uirus.-we tio nofain.vein the country : but we all have the mean* that controlthe prodnota of the oonntry. Some of ua have beencompeUed by use to part with the finer edge of urn sensibilities; bat none of us have lost a largo, whole-hearted sympathy with the wearied and sickened defender* of our land. Then iet ns follow the example of onr pleasant old lady from the i Bn “ Sip to these brave sufferers what is at once gratifying to their tastes, and wholesome tor their strengthening Give Mr. Brown mote live chickens. Such offences are of the gravest oha racier; they strike at the foundation of all law and order, and threaten the peace and safety of the entire community. The Mayor was satisfied that there was no good cause for his arrest, and being convinced of Lobe’s loyalty be granted him a discharge. Killed bt a Bull. Yesterday morning, about eight o’clock, a. ”0*“, named Peter Heiser, aged fifty-two years, was killed by ahull on the larm of Peter Haivorstadt, above Boxborough, near the eight-mile stone. It seems that Heiser for sometime past has been in the habit of beating the bull which was Biwaye considered harmless, so much so that he was driven to pasture by the children of Mr. Halverstadt. Yesterday morning Heiser had occasion to go into the field where the bull had been driven, when the animal without any cause whatever rushed at Heiser and gored him in the stomach exposing bis; entrails! Tho un fortunate man expired instantly. The animal after this walked coolly off and did not attempt to Interfere with any one etee. Bis revenge was satisfied on the one who has been in the habit of maltreating him without any cause. This carries out the old truth that even brutes do not forget an injury. ’ . Committed.— SamuelS. The difference bfctwot-n/act and fiction., oi permanently coring tlis sick and suffering oPtheir diseases, or adver tiring to cure, and ahowing but .little or no evidence of cures, can be well appreciated by the anxious inquirers after health, upon attentively reading the following sy nopsis of certificates from some of the most reliable gen tlemen in Philadelphia, who were permanently cured by Prof. BOLLES, 1220 WALNUT street, and after they had been given up as incurable bv the moßt eminent ine dical men of this city: ; 0 be following is a statement of facts in reference to my condition end astonishing cure of Epilepsy: . For five years previous to my knowledge of ProE 0. H. Bolles’ discovery of the therapeutic administration of Galvanism, Magnetism, and other modifications of Electricity tor the cure of ail acute and chronic diseases, 1 had been severely; afflicced with Epilep’ic Fits •of tie most obstinate character, and had abandoned all hopes of ever being cured, as I had for years tried the treat ment and received the counsel of the most eminent Medi cal Men of the State, -with a view of obtaining relief if any ceuld be found among the. Old Schoolß ; hut all my efforts were unavailing, and, therefore, all hopes were abandoned, as I then knew of ho greater skill for the cure of obstinate cases than is the Old Schools. About six months agomy mind was turned to iuves'igate the new discovery x of Prof. 0. H. Bolles. 1220 Walnut street, and, after noticing several eerrificates of cures which were published, and some from persons with whom I waa acquainted and knew them to be'reliable meni 1 was in, duced to call on the Professor and obtain his opinion of my c*bo. After he had examined me about ten minutes, be frankly informed me ; that he .could cure the, and offered to give me a written warrantee, of a complete cure, and, in case of a failure, to charge me nothing. This at flrsteeemed an impossibility ; but the frankness and earnestness of the Professor' convinced me of his scientific accuracy in the diagnosis of my case. Ha dis closed all my sufferings and symptoms for five years past, as well as I knew them myself. Iwill here state, for the good of humanity, and especially those suffering as I was, that lam perfectly cured. I further would state that mere than four months have elapsed since my cure, and I have had no symptoms, and, therefore, feel confident that lam cured. 1 shall take pleasure in being referred ot at any time by any one suffering as I was, and any in forms ticn of my condition previous to my cure will be freely • given to any one at 1542 North Thirteenth street, Philadelphia.
