The criminal prosecution, however, is decidedly the
.most effective, and wherever it is enforced it works like

It is a terrible outrage upon the rights of citizens, and

Monthly Meeting of the Young Men's
Christian Association
The regular monthly meeting of tho 'roam; Metes
(Thrift:an Association was held at the room, No. 1009
Chestnut street, butt evening. In the absence of tho pro.
sideM. the chair was accepts!! by Mr. Shillingford. The
westher being inclement the attendance was small.
The exercises Were opened by reading the Thirty
forth Peale, and a prayer by fir. John Wiest.
The Milan of the preceding meeting were read by
the Secretary, and approved.
It having been ascertained that the meeting lacked
one of a quernm of merabers, the regular order of bust
nee., which was the revision of the constitution and
by-lawe, was postponed until a later hour. As there
was nothing elee of immediate interest, the chairman
called on Brother Patterson for a speech upon the work
now lx Mg done by the Association among the soldiers..
The regime. wee promptly reeponded to by Mr. Patter
son, in a pithy, common-sense addrees upon the text
propoeed.
Mr. Shillingford took the opportunity to giro hie testi-,
many to tbo faithfulness and efficiency of the Surgeons
and physicians at Yorktown, In appropriating, iu a pro
per way, the contributions that are sent there by the
people.
As the number of members had increased by thie time
to the resutelte number for transacting business, the sob.
}set of revision was taken up.
The amendments to the constitution and by lass, pro
posed by Dr. Oeler at a previous meeting, wore then road
by that gentleman. They are lengthy, and a eynomis
of them has already been published. They were taken
up emiatim and diecnased at length, their author beiug
the Mita speaker. The letter said, in the course of his
rendoke, that the prof cot war had been a perfect god
seed to this association, as without that emergency It
would at this time bo doing abeolutely nothing. This
more from a misconception of the legitimate objects of
their orannization, which he hoped to coo corrected, and
tbenmendments to their constitution and 'bp laws which
henow proposed wore offered with this slow. •
91WAYS . AIIICAD.—MY. J. W. Price, pro
prietor of the popular restaurant, southwest corner of .
Chestnut and Fourth streets, has evidently conceived
the tine idea of catering to the appetites of our citizens.
As wo are aware that much of the ill health, arising
from indigestion, is consequent won eating improperly
prepared food, we cannot too strongly urge oar citizens
who are obliged to dine down town to give Hr. Press e s
ealablithmeut tke preference. The best fare that thfi
best market in the world affords, cooked In the hest and
most scientific manner, is always served at his tables by
courteous and competent attendants, at the shortest
notice, and at all boors. His orders to supply families
with rare and elegantiyeerved di,hoe, and to calm* for
public festivals, are constantly Increasing. In feat,
Price has not his equal as a restaurant caterer in this
country. .

ANNIE T. MACNEILL
We aro reminded by the, above notice that a sudden

- flower of remarkable purity. thus blightleg the garden of
affection in which it was blooming in full loveliness, and
aiming Its close companions to droop their heads from
the weight of sorrow's dew ; but the rainbow of . promise,
"The pure in heart obeli see God," ebirifis out in unmis
takable brightness, reviving those- crushed by • gloom.
Departed Annie! the loved one of our circle, the temple
of so many virtues, round whom the tendrils of our
hearts have entwined, with freepectful regard and loving

only solace for the bereaved, and this conciliatory awn

pilgrimage of our friend, the motive power of whose BX
lett nce here was the good of others, never governed by
the sordid interests of the world, but the ndble principle
