The officers of the People's Bank, of Kentucky, give

A GREAT LABOR-SAVING INVENTION.—We

den's •tClothes-wringer," as one of the genuine Improve
ments of the age, and have described its peculiaritit s, and
the advantages it possessms over all other inventions of
its class. Since then, however, ve have heard SO many
encomiums upon ire merits, corroborating what we have
ourselves experimentally learned to be true, that a re
ference to the subject again may not bo out of place.
As to what it accomplishes, we may say, in brief, that

little labor that a child of ten years can work the instru

TILE LAUNCH OP THE IRON-CLAD.— The
launch of Toting Ironsides, Oti :111tittilay, Attracted
minims of people to Kenehigten. The iron monster
glided gracefully into the water, and the first of the Phi
ladelphia iron-clads first wooed the waters of the Dela
ware amid the cheer' of the assembled woollemclads.
The latter, by the way, were in all kind, of costume,
from the "looped and windowed" rig of enthusiastic
Young America to the full dress of the tasteful gentle

elegant and comfortable snits procured at the Brown-

In 1853, the total product was one hundred millions; but
it has been gradually deciiafnr since that date. it is not
impossible that after a lapse of time, California may be
come exhausted of the resplendent metal. It is a well
ascirtained fact, that countries which in ancient times
abounded in the precious metals are now entirely deal
tute of them. This is not the case, however, with the
