The concern is to he controlled by a board of managers, who will he elected on Tuesday night week, notice to that effect having been published. The charter is most liberal in its views, anti has thus far reel teed the sanction of all no preamble elates that whereas certain citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have associated themselves together for the purposes hereinafter set forth, and are desirous of obtaining and enjoying the powers and immunities of a corporation or body politic in law under the 'provisions of, and in conformity with, the several acts of Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in such case made and provided, they do, therefore, respectfully petition the honorable the judges of the Court of Common Pleas for the county of Piing.. delphia for a decree of incorporation under the following constitution: The constitution nays that the association shall be known by the name of " The Cooper Shop S.ildiers' Home, of the City of Philadelphia." to have perpetual emcees film and the privileges sad immunities incident under the law to corporations or bodies politic, and to take, hold. and enjoy all manner of goods, chalets, and estates, the yearly income of which shall not exceed the awn of five thousand dollars. Since the commapgion of the effetice, Water Phillips has died, spa James, the lathe', alone was on trial. Dim Hemphill's recollections of the events of the day were very contused, and she admitted that she as well as her hushend had been drinking. Other witnesses who saw James Phillips after leaving the house him as being revered with blend and his head was much cut. The wound on Elenrphill was iutlicrta with a: mall penknife, and the heart had been penetrated, causing instant death, Both James and Walter were under the influence of li quor. Some few days ago the venerable Dr. F. G. Vandyke, of this city, whose eon h lieutenant colonel of this regiment. paid them a visit. and suggested the idea of having one of these cepa. dons tents, under which the men migut be assembled for religious worship. This suggestion was well received, and the desire xpreFsed that one might be immeaiately obtained and forwarded to them tire. TERRIBLE TRAGEDY IN BUFFALO.—On Thursday scorning, Moses Menard. a Frenchman, accidentally shot his wife, under the supposition that she was a burglar that had entered his room. He states that on his return home the night before ho era inform. ed by his wife that MUD men had endeavored to gain admission to the house during his absence. She persuaded him to load his gun, which he placed by the bedside. In the night she arose, and he, awakening suddenly, Bred and killed her instantly, supposing her to be a burglar. He was arrested. FIREWOOD IN BALTIMORE.—The Maryland Le gislature has passed an act that on and after the first Monday in ➢lay, instant, all firewood brought by water or railroad, to the city of Baltimore, for sale, shall be set up, packed, and corded, under the direction of one of the inspectors or woedcorders appointed. A " GRIDIRON NEAR Ructma.—The Panama Railroad Company have recently commenced the construction of a fine gridiron at Tobago, in the oity of Panama. The gridiron will be suffvtiently large to admit the largest-sized steamers, and will prove of the greatest advantage to that port, Al though the work of construction is carried on night and day, it will be several months before " its com pletion. The material has all been imported from the United States.
