    ARRIVAL ok the United States
GUNBOAT ABOOfeTOOK.—' The United States gunboat
Aroostook* Lieut. JF>lin C. Beaumont commanding, ar
rived : at the PhUadt-lphia Navy-yard last evening, and
gives an interesting report of h*r cruise in search of the
United States Fl’igfttlJ Vermont. ghe left Boston on the
J>J, ami fell in with the \ermont on the morning of the
7th inst, in lat. S 3 23, long. 63 30
On the Stli a severe gale occurred, and nothing could
Le done in aid of the crippled frigate. On the following
day, in getting a hawser out to the Vermont* the Aroos
look lost her Maiulopmast, which in falling carried away
the smoke stack, steam escape pipe, portion of her rail,
and caused much other damage. The next night.her
foretopmast was carried away. The Aroostook remained
5u company with th«* Vermont until the evening of the
20th, after the steamer saron had copie to her assistance.
The AroofU»ok towed the Vermont a portion of the
time, but, being in a crippled condition herself, could
not make much progress. Captain Beaumont was un
tiring in his exertions during the nine days he remained
with tbs renuo?if. A temporary sinoke-staok wasfiited
up to replace lbat carried away, which, liowevor, only
partially served to free the vessel from the coal gas, aud
there was much suffering among the officers and crew
froui this cause.
When they let; the I’erinrat the officers were «Tl well,
There was. however, a heavy siuk listauoug the crew,
from the ex insure incident to the crippled condition of
the vessel. One of the crew was drowned in big berth
during the night, on the 24th ult., when her rudder was
carried away. Two others of the crew died from expo
pure, and several were frostbitten.
On thelStb inst., just before leaving the Vermont, the
Aroostook fell in with the schooner Olicer H. Booth) of
Poughkeepsie, iu distress. She was bound to New York
from Georgetawu.U. c .Imvingnm tkoblwkadMuring
which she received several shots from the Potomac
batteries. She was supplied with sails, provisions aud
water from the Vermont. She liad on board sixteen of
the crew of the Ocean Monarch, abandoned at sea, and
liad transferred six others to another vessel.
Bv or per ot the Secretary of War, the name of
Fort Calhoun ; at the Kip Kaps, has been changed
to that of Fort Wool, in recognition of the faithful
services of the general commanding that depart
ment.
The streets of St. Louis are again assuming
their wonted business appearance.
CITY ITEMS.
Yancey —Yancey, the great Se
erosion spouter and rebel emissary, lias been caught. The
Illustrious unhung put on sailors 1 clothes, aud attempted
to run the blockade in the attiri- of an honest man. But*
the ears of the Secession boast stuck out, and Yancey
was bagged. The Alabamian can now brood over tbe
uncertainty of lmman affairs, while spending his time in
Vort Warren, and he can contrast his tarry garments
with the elegant suits he was wont to see at the Brown
Stone Clothing Hall of Bockhiil ft Wilson, Nos. 603 and
605 Chestnut street, above Sixth, in the old time when he
at least professEd loyalty.
Camp Wit vs. Camp Wittles. —A corporal
Df a Pennsylvania cavalry regiment writes to The Press
that horse-radish now constitutes a part of the soldiers 1
daily rations. We presume that they frequently get
Tfftfftercd-in. 'this is probably a spicy joke, aud the
author of il is u s serving, without doubt, of a new suit of
•clothes, of the latest Spring style, from the Mammoth
Clothing Emporium <.f Granville Stokes, No. 609 Chestuut
Street, which suit he can have at the shortest notice,
urovidod he pays fir tbe samo.
We copy the following from an Indiana
jpiper: It appears that tin l ladies of Ladoga, Montgomery
-county, in that State, turned out en masse , the other day,
>sd tfenwiishtd the contents of every liquor shop in the
jriace. They then culled upon the druggists, and informed
them that if they sold intoxication tenors for any other
purpose than medicine they would be summarily dealt
ivith. Bi:t. on further consultation, they concluded to
.flemolißh ail tliß liquor in the drug stores, which ihoy
went to work and accomplished, emptying the casks into
the gutter. Each oue of these ladles (1} should be pre
sented with a ;:<?«? dress from Charles Stokes 1 “ ono
price,” under the Continental, in this city.
Ftotrs for Family Use,—The best quality
of wheat and buckwheat tlour can always be had at the
Store of Mr. C. II Msttsou, dealer in fine groceries,

-regarded as the finest in the market, and his celebrated

T'LECTRICITY WILL CURE ALL
J—J FORMS [OF DISEASE, when applied by Prof.
Ci Hi BOLLES* 1220 WALNUT Street, Philadelphia,
iht founder and teacher of an entire new mode of ap
plying Galvanism, Magnetism, Electro-magnetism, and
other modifications of Electricity, in harmony with his
discovery of the polarities of the brain, and ganglionic
relations of the human system. Read the following:
About two years apd gi* months ago I was taken with
Inflammatory Rheumatism, and would sometimes have it
sojbad, in different parts of my body, that I wouldbe un
able to move. The parts affected would swell, and the
pain was vory severe, and in damp weather would ge
nerally be very stiff, and confined mo in the house. I have
trisff different physicians and personal recommendations
to euro tlie rheumatism without .mil, and I also Have
taken a great many different extracts, and other modi
clnesp andjgot but temporary relief. I was persuaded by a
friend to try Professor BOLLES ft CO , 1220 WALNUT
Street, Electrical Physicians, but thinking at the time
it would be like the rest, 1 felt reluctant a trout trying it,
but a few days after I saw a certificate in The Press, a
daily paper of a cure of a chronic case he had made
upon a minister of the M. S. Church, 1633 HELMUTH
Street 5 and I went to see him, and after examination he
mid he could euro me. I submitted myself to his treats
ment, end the effect wab astonishing-; no shocks, (such
as 1 expected,) but all was pleasant and agreeable, and
after the fourth application I felt better than I had .for
some time, and in the fifth application I was perfectly
cured, the whole occupying not quite two weeks Ido
heartily recommend any person similarly affltoted, and
believing if any person who has any acute orebronio
affliction would call and see Professor BOLLES ft 00.,
Electrical Physicians. 1220 WALNUT Street, he would
get relieved of his suffering by their treatment.
