THE GRAY'S FERRY ARSENAL.—Never in
, the history of the Schuylkill Arsenal, has there been such
a busy time ati at prevent, Qvcr five hundred men are
constantly elOplliThrd WI the premises. Who are kept etas
.dity engaged in storing away shoes, tents, overcoats,
and in thomanufacture of packing boxes and other mu
ter:ids necessary for the Patety of military stores Every
department of the arsenal is managed with scrupulous
Skill and economy. The work is commented at seven A.
11., and continues until sundown. No one is admitted
within the grounds except on urgent business. It is evi
dent that the workmen are impresonsl with the import
alive of despatch and haste in everything going throngli
their hands. and printed notices are everywhere observa
ble about the grounds warning contractors and others
that they ate not allowed to consume the time
or the laborers. We tmtlersmn I that about one
thellealid WORM' are constantly employed out.
Bide, in making necessary articles of owning to be
sent to the sokiers through the arsenal. The tent de
partment, under the efficient mana.emeat of Hr. Tho
mas A. Timmins, inspects, is at present turning out
OUT 509 tents per day. The knapsack department, under
Inspector John Callahan, is capable of Mashing about
ten to 20,000 knapsacks per day. Mr. Kern, inspector
of clothing, and 11r. It. V. ,'arsons, inspector of shoes,
are busily engaged in their respective departments. The
inentroment of the arsenal reflects no little credit upon
Captain C. A. Alligood, who personally superintends
everything in the arsenal. The efficient services of the
chief clerk, Joseph Burke, cannot be overrated, and his
tiervier, we aro glad to say, are well appreciated.

NOVEL - MODE
For a Retail Establishment to dispose of Cloaks will
effectually prevent their exhibiting any old styles during
the coming seasons.
-
As we are determined always to dispose of our entire
stock at the close cf every season, we consider it not only
more business like, but also more in conformity with the
character we ha-ve attained for straight-forwardness, to
Dhow, by an auction sale, Cl which it le our intention
that every Cloak shall be sold, that we are in earnest in
regard to selling out, rather than advertise tremendous
reductions in prices, whk:h - very often have proved to be
jest The contrary.
In conclusion, we would state that all our Cloaks are
of a superior character, not only in regard to quality,
but also to style, which alt the ladies wilt confirm who
bare extended to us their patronage, and that all the
materials used for our Cloaks have been carefully
sponged, which prevents them from shrinking or getting
spotted by rain.
