FINANCIAL 'AND COMMERCIAL. THE MONEY MARKET. PnILADELratt, October 28, 1881 The stock market was dull to-day. At the first board the whole business comprised sales of 33 shares of Read ing Railroad stock, at 17%, and thirteen hundred dellere of City Loan, (nor,) at 91%. At the second hoard, nine hundred dollars of Schuylkill Navigation sixes, of 1882, sold at 61 ; twenty shares of Beaver Meadow /railroad stock, at 58, and nine shares of Camden and Amboy Railroad, at 11331, Fitly-two shares of stock, and twenty-two hundred dollars of loans, make up the whole day's work. It is needless t. make comparison of prices upon such a show ing as this. The market is quoted as firm. Theatories of disagreements between Centrals Scott and McClellan, and the talk on the street that the influence of the Lieu stenant General and the Secretary of State are exerted to cause the Pennsylvania hero to be displaced for a favorite of the Lieutenant General, whether well-founded or in founded, keep people from investing in clothe et present. No better investment eau be found, for those having small sums, as well as large, than the great Government Loan, of which 'Messrs. Jay, Cooke, 6.7 Co., are the agents. The receipts of yesterday, at Messrs. Jay, Cooke, k Co's oilier, were 541,000. OFFICIAL BANK STATEMENT. WEEKLY AVERAGE:3 OF THE PHILADELPHIA BANKS Oct. 21. Harper opposed this motion on principle. He held that gruthipell werr DO dent nor plead, lean thsir understanding muddy that they could not see for them sel, es that the constitution declared, as plait as A II C, that no such action as was contemplated in this resoln tion.could be legally taken without at least one month's notice, which had not been given. Mr. Sbilling, ford thought that, inferentially, due notice had been given. Mr. Fox challenged Mr. Shillingford's ingenuity to devise some better method to get out of the difficulty into which they were sinking deeper and deeper. He was heartily' in favor of retaining Mr. Stuart in tho pro- sideecy, but it must be done regularly—i. e, ti de cently and in order." Pr—Harper was of the sante opinion, and proposed that the day of election be still further postponed. Mr. Ward inmiutol upon it that titu wholo thing ought to b It ft go by default. Several brethren rose to say that they had meant nothing personal in their remarks. - Brother Patterson rose again, and made a logical and tah ig §recli, Ile deprecated thocoursrgrutleaten were pursuing with reference to this election difficulty. Where WAS the use of insisting on so niuch order in this matter, when everything else that the Association did was pro verbially done out of order ! He was in favor of having Mr. Stuart continued as President, from this fact, among °Revs, that they could get nobody else to consent to serve in that capacity. The proposed antentimont to the constitution was then, by a unanimous Tote, posponed. Dr. Osborne then rose, and said he was iu favor of erasing the age proviso from their ClMlStitAtioll. This Association had attained an enviable position and repu tation not on account of its achievements, but on ac count of the high diameter of the men at the head of its affairs. If this disabling dance were retained, it must eject several of theso most valuable members, which would lie very detrimental to their tuinte prosperity as an organization. It was then, after a vast deal of discussion, ordered by a two-thirds vote that a committee be appointed M make application to the Legislature for the alteration in the Omelet , above emitted; but, there not beind a unarant present, the vote was pronounced void, which leaves the iuestkai open for future action. THE Fun TRADE.—Passing the splendid establishment of News. Charles Oakford S Buns, under the Continental Hotel, yesterday, we entered, in order to ascertain the prospects of the Fur Trade, in which this house has long bean very largely engaged,. From pre sent prospects, their operation in Furs, this fall, will be unusually large, from the double-fact that their stock of them is more citensivo than ever and their prices lower, by a very lame percentage. Front what we there and then saw, our judgment emphatically is, that now is the time for ladies to buy their Furs, and oAxponns' is the place to buy them. SUPERIOn OLD PORT.—Our' most eminent ph)siciass are accustomal, in many cases, to recom mend to their patients the use of Port Wine. Of course, a pure article is intended. Mr. O. 11.
