PROM WESTERN VIRGINIA
Oar advioes from Western Virginia are extreme
ly interesting. The Union men there, who coin
prim the great majarity of population in between
thirty and forty counties, are hard at work in the
struggle against secession, the active military
movements of the Government giving them coral
denve that they win cot be detorted in their posi
tion, and that they will ultimately moaned. The
Convention called to meet at Wheeling will assem
ble this afternoon, and will be attended by dele
gates from the ',aunties west of the Alleghenies and
north of the Kanawha river. Opposition to 88°6E3-
'3I9U is general, but opinions among the delegates
are divided as to the proper course to be pursued.
One party are in favor of the immediate division
of the State and the organization of a new State
Government; another party favors open opposition
to the action of the recent Convention at Rich
mond, with a view to the overthrew of treason in
the entire State ; while a third party think the
motion of the present Convention should be simply
advisory, and that it should issue a call for another
Convention, to consist of delegates from a larger
tern t nrYl in "Web dual action should be deter
mined upon. Listless the latter course should be
adopted, the session is likely to be protraoted.—N.

The Hoobester Union publishes a blateMent
which not only Vindioates Colonel Gardiner, Major
Anderson's predecessor at Fort Moultrie, from the
charge of treachery brought against him, but fas
tens it upon Floyd, and, if possible, places his con

traneforred from Fort Moultrie, Colonel Gardiner
repeatedly milled on Floyd for more men and pro
visions, but could not get them. Instead, an in
stalment of workmen were sent, ostensibly to re
pair Fort Sumpter, but really to weaken it. Co
lonel Gardiner, meanwhile, managed to get six
months' provisions thrown into the fort without
Floyd's knowledge, through the influence of Com
missary General Taylor. and the Secretary of War,
finding bow impracticable a man he bad placed in
charge of the fort, ordered him away and sent An
