lIIPROVIMENTS IN TIM SOUTHERN PART
or rag ClTY.7—Persollll who have not visited the
southern section of our city within a year or two
past would be greatly surprised, by taking a trip
that way; to see the great and extensive improve
ments that have been made. The section of the
city lying to the south and east of the county
prison, lit the First ward, has boon laid out into
building lots, and fine modern struoturca have
been erected as though by the hand of magic.
Places thit a few years since presented rye fields,
potato - patches, cabbage gardens, and aboriginal
trees, are now covered with well•laid•out streets
and beautified with convenient dwellings for the
working classes. Gas and water, hot and cold
bathe, have been genekally latroducod, and every
thing has been attended to in the construction that
is calculated to add to the comfort and convenience
of the tenants.

Naw Guun.—We advertise to-day a new style of
glue, whioh must be needed in every house. This le
reported to be the identical glue wi.h whioh the man
glued his dog together after he (the dog—not the man I)
had split himself in two halves by running against a
sharp poet while in pursuit of a rabbit. It is related of this
unfortunate dog that he was stuck together with two
legs up and down. and remained so for the rest of his
life ; albeit ho was a inore durable dog after than before
this slight accident. because while he was running on
two legs the other two were resting, and he had only to
flop over on the rested legs and go ahead, afresh. This
only shows that care should be taken in sticking things
together, when you have a good glue to work with.

DYSPEPSIA — INDIGESTION.--If the diges
two organs are disorganized, the whole machinery of
the body images to ant harmoniously. A Consumptive is
always a Dyspeptic. A person cannot have a torpid
liver, or the piles, nor a sick headache, who is not a
Dyspeptic. Dr. J. R. STAFFORD'S IRON AND SOL
PEIUR POWDERS oure all forme of Dyspepsia and
Indigestion. They are a solublo preparation, which
mutes with the digested food, and enters with it into the
formation of new blood. The Iron strengthens the
Dlood,'and the combined Sulphur converts its wasio into
sane. This action upon the blood increases the vital
or hfe.giving forces of the body, and regulates ah its
secretions. See advertisement of Dr. J. R, Stafford's
Remedies, and send for a pamphlet.

Ilsrmanson, Texas, Oct. 7, iffy.
Messrs. Eva:vs & WATSON, Philadelphia:
GENTS: Lt an extract in the N. 0. Picayune, from the
Galveston News, I ace it stated that there was not a
safe that stood the fire - which destroy ed our town (Hen
derson)on the sth of August last, and, in justice to
yourselves, I must say that I purchased one of you
manufacture of safes last spring in New Orleans, of
Messrs. Heaton & Oliver, your agents, which stood the
burning of my store, it being surrounded by wooden
buildings, whiali produced the mord'intonse heat. About
twenty hours after the tire, I took out of the safe my
books, papers, &0., perfectly secure, without sustain
ing the slightest loss from anything in the safe. You
can use this letter in any way you see proper. I
think Justine demands that the error should he correct
