CITY ITEM'S.
A Superior Washing Machine.
We received at this offioe, eeveral days ago. a w ash_
ing Machine, with a polite request from the proprietor,
Mr.T.W. Edgar, of Espy, Columbia ootutty, Pai,' to’
merit# praotioally tested. The request has
been complied vith, and the result has been most satis*'
factory. The Machine is question yraspaiefited by Mr.
Abraham Hu Her, in W, sines which time an interest
in it has. by Mr. Edgar, who, by the
WSy, poasessee unequalled facilities for manufacturing
them on a large scale, as all will infer who have ever
visited his extensive Saw and Planing Mills* located at
Espy* Pennsylvania. ~~
With regard to the instrument itself, we may state
that we have bestowed upon it the attention dne to
every ingenious, labor-saving invention, and what we
have to say about it now is mooh more prompted by a
desire to direct thepnblio In obtaining a really valuable
article than with a view of benefiting an individual
notwithstanding that Mr, Edgar and his , agents, in
this-and other cities, have our best wishes for their
shooeas in. giving this Machine the widest possible
introduction to the public, Eoonomy and efficiency are
the tiro great merit# of this labor-saving instrument.
It does its work nobly and with remarkable despatch*
By ita use, in fact, the labor of a day is performed with
comparative ease in less than three hour#, and as to the
r character of the work we opine the verdict will in every
case be unexceptionable. The women, to whoea judg
ment in the*® matters we must, of oourse, defer, have
been great'y delighted with the perfect operations of
oleansiag, rinsing, blueing, wringing, and bleaohmg, as
performed by this machine. The price of the article, we
are informed by the agent in this city, ( Mb. Isaac Matt
hall, No, 10*5 fiaoe street, to whom the reader is re
ferred for further information on the kuhjeot,) ranges
from 910 to 9k) each; the principle and perfection of
the tower-priced ones being equal in-all respects to
those sold at a higher eost, but differing in material,
workmanship, and style of finish. Boring the two years
sinee this invention has been before the publio, its me
rits have been illustrated in the deoided popularity it has
attained in various parts of the Union. At the present
time the proprietor and mann'aotam, Mr. T. W. Ed
gar, is filling large orders for the trade. We may state >
in passing, that alb orders addressed to him, at Espy
Columbia county, Pa.,Teoeiva prompt attention, whe
ther for single machines or in quantities. In these oases
the machines are forwarded to the most convenient
agent, who in.tnm delivers to the purchaser, the whole
oost of delivery from Espy to this elty being fifty cents,
end for longer distances the same ratio.
Wq have said this muoh of an .excellent artiole, be

July approaches, the usual preparations are being made
for the changes to which oar business establishments
areeeml-annu&lly liable! Of these changes, contem
plated and now in progress, we shall have more to say
in a'few days. For the present, we wi'h to call atten
tion more especially to the fine series of improvements
now being made by Mr. E. H. Eldridf-e, at his well
known clothing ware-room, on the northeast corner of
Chestnut and Eighth streets. Mr. Eldridgo has shown'
his wisdom by pursuing his business in the eren tenor
of his war, being contented with small profits, and
sailing every body with his graceful and well-made
garments; and the natural result is, a a’eadtly iroreas
ins necessity for him to "lengthen his cords and
straighten his stakes.". With the completion of bte pre
sent alterations, he will present to his patrons one of
the finest clothing aales-rooms in this oitv, and being -
admirably located,a large increase of trade maybe
safety anticipated, in oonsequenee of hie additional fa
cilities to accommodate his friends and the public.

This great speoifie for Consumption is fast superse

with tubercular diseases, being twioe as effioaoious as

solved and digested, passing into the small intestines
drop by drop, supplying the wastes of the body by its
nutritious properties, and thus assisting and sustaining
nature in overcoming the disease. Approved by the
