of Bituminous Coals; suitable for the manufacture of
Gas,' to be delivered at the Gas Works, on the Schuylkill
river, in such monthly quantities as may be specified in
the contract. The first deliveries to oommence in the
month of July next.. .
The Coals must be fresh, clean, and dry, and of a quali
ty to be approved by the engineer. Th# proposals must
state the particular variety of Coal it is intended to tar
nish, and if nf a kind not before used at these'works,
samples Of not less than fifty tons for trial will be re
quired-previous to the time of opening the proposal#.
The gran ton of 2.J40 pounds wiU be oonsidered as the
weight intended in the proposals, unless otherwise ex
pressly stated, and; jf itT?e preferred to deliver by mea
sure, the sttuok bushel of J3BB cubio inches will be used,
in case of failure to deliver the Coal aooording to dgree
ment. the trustees of the Gas Works reserve the right
to purobase wherever they may deem best, and charge
to the contractors any lots or damage consequent on
suohfeilure.
The payments will be made in two equal instalments,
at four and six months after the specified periods of de
livery, theUth of eaoh month to be taken as the ave
rage of the monthly deliveries: or, at the option of the
trustees, payments will be made in oosh, with interest
deducted.
, Should the contractors prefer to deliver the Coal ear
lier than required, it may be reoeivedof convenient to
store, but payments will be made to date from the time
specified.
