WATCHES.
MADE BY THE
AMERICAN WATCH COMPANY,
AT WALTHAM, MiSS.
Attention is invited to the following statement an
accompanying letters of recommendations and testimo
nials in favor of these oelebratod Watches.
A gold medal was awarded the Company by the
American Institute, at New York, io 1857,
The Company aljso received the first premium—a gold
fnedal—from the Franklin Institute* Philadelphia* in
1858.
a These Watches have now been io the market Jot

conceivable manner, and have proved themselves to be
the most satisfactory time-pieces ever offered to the
public.
This result has been brought about by a strict applica
tion of mcebanioa! scienoe to the construction of the
Watch from its very Inception, rendering it when,
finished, mathematically correct in oil its proportions,
and neoessarilj as perfect ft time-keeper as U is possi
ble to make.
i-nrni
The Company have tested their'Watches in many in
stances hy actual daily notin?, and the result of this
test hu been that they have exhibited a rate equal m
regularity to the b.*at marine chronometer.
N. B.—We have Justintroducedn new style of Watch,
elaborately fin shed, and thinner than any we have
hitherto produced, with several improvements calcu
lated to insure the greatest acoumcy of performance,
and to prevent the usual acoidenta and derangements to
which foreign vratohe s ara liable.
The following is from Mr. Porter, the well-known
Marine Chronometer and Watchmaker:
Boston, April 90,15G0.
Mr. R. E. Robbins, Treasurer, 4*«.
Dear Sir: Finos rey note to »ou of September, 1880, I
have sold a number of your Company's Watches, and
hear good reports from them without exception. They
give me no trouble and ray customers every satisfaction,
Reoently.ashipmaster, to whoml sold one last year,
called to say that his Ofaronoraefor having broken down
at sea, he navigated his vsasel safely home by his
Waltham Watch. Your* truly, Gko. E. Potteb.
R.E. Robbins, Esq.
l>ear Sir: The American Watch nude bT your Com
pany, which I have had in conatnntusa for about a year
has kept excellent time, and sustains jour guaranty. It
seems to be less disturbed by horseback and railroad o&r
jolting than the generality of foreign wetohee.

Dear Sir: The three watches of yout manufactur

proved to bathe most correct time-keepers I have ever
known. I gave tny head servant, my head carpenter*
and my head engineer, each one of them; and since
they have been in their r<spective poisession* every
thing on'the plantation has moved like olook-work. id
coiiseaaencc of the extreme aoouraoy and regularity
with which these watches perform.
. Yours truly, Lewis Morris,
Chioaoo, 111., MarohlßGO.
A«iBiCAH Watch Company, Waltham, Mass.
1 hnvetestedwith extreme care the running of the
watch l bought of you.'now nearly a year smoe, and so
noooraio and equable has been its performances that I
thought it would Interest you, and all nlhera familiar
with horology to see a record of its variations. It was
finally set to true time after it'had been regulating in
my possession for. three months :
June*....
August 10.
Sin e which time Its average monthly variations have
not exceeded six seoonds. N iimaw Wjard.
Caut o-*.~.*s/lur watch is now extensively counter
felted by foreign manufacturers* we have to inform the
publlo that no WAtch is of Qtir production which is unac
companied br a oertifioale of genuineness, bearing the
number ’of the watrh, and signed by our Tieasurer, H,
E. Robbins, or by our predecessors, Appleton, Tracy

As those watches arc for sib br jewellers generally

SARATOGA, APRIL 16, 1860.
An attempt has been made to deceive the publio, bj
persons offering what they call “CoKoasss Watu"
from Fountains; and at the price of six (6) oonte per
glass. The iehclttaU price of the ftfjwiiw Congrem Wa

position of pretending to sell at retail at less than cost,
and trithout allowance for freight* cartage, or breakage,
is apparent t but their probable course has been to
empty one bottle of genuine Congress Water into a
Fountain filled with their trash, and thereby christening
its loial oontents.
We have never sold Congress Water In Fountains,
