AMERICAN WATCHES.
133333 KM
T 111: AMERICAN WATCH COMPANY,
AT WALTHAM, MASS
TO THE PUBLIC.
Attention is invited to the following statement of facts
in regard to these watobes, and come COnlideThliOna
why, they should be preferred to those of forelsn menu
f notihre
Their sale hoe been cenatantly on the moieties ever
since the business was commenced; thus proving that
thee heregreteri iota popular furor through their in
•plash irllytis. - of the extsnt to which
they have received the endorsement of Via "win, we
may state, that iewarde of Thirty Thousand of teem
are now in daily use in the United States, giving perfect
satisfaction to their owners.
This result hoe been effected In the teeth of the most
determined and violent oprosition from the greater part
of those in the Watch Importing Trade in the large
cities, who have Bs stematically used all their influence
with their ou,tomera to discourage their dealing in an
article which threatened, by its 'superiority, to displace
the foreign watch to a great extent. Many of the Jew
ellers and Watchmakers of the interior, a large propor
tion of them foreigners!, seeonded the efforts of the
Watch Imgorters, being pershaded by their counsels.
and mulled by a contracted and imperfect view of their
own interests; by the f, ar of loss on their stook of im
ported watches, and the apprehension that their profits
might he diminished through competition in a well
known domestic article, with other groundless preju
dices arising froma superficial inquiry into the eubjeet.
Notwithstanding this, however, the watches havestesd
ily gained in the estimation of the 'people, the retailers
have been constrained to keep them to supply the de
mand, a d by degrees. we are happy to add, their pre
judieee and alarms are being dissipated.
Our present system of making the different parts of
each watch the exact counterpart of every other watch
of the same series, leads to a uniforati ty In quality which
oen never be attained by the foreign prongs. If one of
our watches is good, all are good; whereas each foreign
watch le only a probability by itself, depending upon the
Moll and fieelity of the particular workman who may
km, en to be employed upon it. In addition to these
primary conditions of amen, every watch issued by
the Company he made of he most choice and enduring
materials, carefully entehed by the various processes to
which they are subjected, and then Put together. in
spected and severely tested by the best workmen in the
Citatory. guoll has been theme with which there va
rime duties have been performed, that out of the large
number of watches sold, not more than a dozen or two
have boon returned to the Company for exchange, from
any cause whatever.
Every watch Is guarautied by a guaranty that is good
for something. and by parties that can be readily
reached. Foreign watehe E. of the most inferior &morn,
tion, are often/illy guarantied be their makers, whom
it is impossible to call to account under any circum
stances.
American watches come to the consumer unburdened
hr the various oxpensee and profits incident to impor
tation—the total of which, tucluding custom• house do
t es, more than double the prime cost of the watch be
fore it gate to the Pocket of the ultimate owner. This
consideration of itself should decide the question in our
favor.
Every dollar diverted from the purchase of foreign
watches is so mut% saved to the coontrY t so much en
couragement to home industry. and so much added to
the putilio wealth. We do not ask apreferenciaonthese
grounds it our watches are net bitter, for the money,
than tne foreirn.
'llo conclude—we oleim that our watches are the beet
and moat durable time-keeper, in the world betides he
mg the cheapest: and we assert that a series of wa ches
was never mado that would show 60 little average va
riation from true nom ns those we have issued, In in

CONGRESS SPRING,
BARATOGA, APRIL 16, 1860.
An attempt has been made to deceive the public, by
persons offering what Step call " Corrals's Waves"
from Fountains ; and at the pries of six (Si cents per
glass. The wholesale price of the genuine Congress Wa

position of pretending to sell at retail at less than cost,
and without allowance for freight. cartage, or breakage.
Is apparent; but their probable (mums has been to
empty one bottle of genuine Consmas Water Into

its total contents.
We have eaves sold Congress Water in Fountains,
