Tug NoOW-DAY PRATED. MitETIXII, yesterday,
was, if anything, more numerously attended than on
the previous day. The chair in the church above was
occupied by the Rev. Alfred Cookman. of the Methodist
Episoopal Church, and in the lecture-room, where a
very large meeting was also in pros reel, the exertion
were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Cooper, of the Episoo
pal (Aura. The special subject for the supplications
of the day wee " the• conversion of the children and
youth in our own and (mien lands." Tho mooting in
the churn to-day will be conducted by the Rot. John
Chambers. Upon the whole, the response to the call
from the Lodiann missionaries (or this weok of prayer,
if we may judge from what is transpiring in our midst,
has, in anurnerical souse, boon really extraordinary.
"NINE TAILOII6 EASE A MAN."—The origin of
this saying is given in a work publiehod in London city,
in the year 16132, in this wire :
"There is n proverb which line been of old,
And many men have likewise been so told,
To the diseredit of the Tailor's Trade—
Nine Tailors go to mote op a man, they said
But for their credit I'll unriddle rt t'yo :
A draper onto fall into povortio,
Nine Tailors joined their parses together then,
To Rot him up, and make him a man again." 4
This ancient saw is now reversed ; and it takes about
nine good cutters and an equal nurneer of accomplished
salesmen to make one tailor of fame, like Granville
Vtokes, the fashionable clothier, No. GO7 Chestnut street.
BOLE-IN-Tlili-DAY.—Speaking of this celebrated
Indian brave, the La Orogen (Minn.) Union says We
are informed that he has built him a "gay old boom "
on his reserved six hundred and forty sores, at Crow
Wing, The bonne has zest him some sin thousand Sel
lars in gold, and is nearly surrounded by a piazza. The
old chief is living in all the splendor of a Mormon
bishop. His parlor is furnished with seventeen rock
ing•chairs, while the walls are hung with large portraits,
seven of which represent himself. The chief has good
taste as well as vanity, for he invariably sends to this
eity to procure his best garments at the Brown Btone
Clothing Hall of Roeklull & Wtleon, Noe. 6U3 and GAS
Chestnut street, above Biath.
Nzw STATioxisar Syonz.—Messm. W. F. Mur
