that it w&s his intention to leave this port yester

‘ The Money Market*
Philadelphia, Nov. 29,1859.
The transactions at the Stock Board to-day were
to & moderato extent, but the feeling "was lees
buoyant. Beading Railroad declined }, Pennsyl
vania Railroad Good investment securities are
firm, with an advancing tendency. Thor© is more
disposition shown on the part of oapit&liste to in
vest in stocks than for some time past, the low
prices at whieh most of the fanoieß are held offer
ing a very good margin for appreciation. The
Stock of the ooal-carrytog companies, for a long
period past, have been selling below their intrinsic
value, and we would not be surprised to find the
stock of the Beading Railroad and Schuylkill Na
vigation, which may now be considered at the
lowest point of depression, mako a considerable
advanoo, The amount of coal brought forward by
the companies named is greater than last year,
and we see no reason why a dividend- should not
bo declared to their stockholders.
In oar local column we publish an account of a
large issuebf counterfeit notes on the Philadelphia
Bank. They are executed so .well as almost to
defy detootion. They are of the denomination of
$lOO and $5O. The public should be on their guard
against all notes of these denominations, or at least
ascertain will their genuineness before taking
them. We are indebted to Messrs. Imlay A'Bick
hell, publishers of the Bank-note. Reporter, for the
following accurate description of them: “ The $lOO
notes are printed in'blue ink, dated January Ist,
1858, and February Ist, 1859, being the imitation
of the old plato, of which very few are now in cir
culation. The ssos are printod in black ink, and
dated May 2d, 1859. Some of the ssos are printed
in bluo ink, and dated February Ist, 1859. There
never was any iwue bearing this date. Tho genuine
$lOO note, issuod in May, 1859, is printed in black
ink, of which there does not appear to be any
counterfeits well done, that are calculated to de*
ceive good judges.”

PICTURES.
A few seta still left of Tht Voyage of Lift, entitled
Childhood, VowiA, Manhood, and Old Ant, by TAemas
Colt, engraved from the original paintings, in the high
est style oftheart.
The celebrated paintings, from which these engra
vings nro mado, have long been regarded as the best of
toe productions of their distinguished author. They are
too welt known to require any extended notice. The
name of the series has become familiar as “ household
words” all over our conn try, rnd it* fame among the gal
lories of European art is worthy of our native land. It
is an allegory—the silent interpreter of which is m
every heart. It is an Epio Poem—the hero, cr heroine
of which is the beholder. It is adiscourae on homan Ufa
its openings, it* fascinations, t’tiiptations, trial*, dan
gers, and to the Christian voyager, its peaceful and glo
rious end. Its eloquent teachings are none the less im
pressive boeause conveyed in the si lent, graceful, and
imposing forms and symbols of beauty end sublimity.
