OBITUARY.
DEATH OF MRS. TOWNSEND.-The death of
Air* • Mirs Tovmiotu}, on the 20th inst., has removed
one of the most noble and useful women frnni earth to
her reward. She was a heroine^ 1 * that she foarlesaty
and steadfastly overcame every obstacle ofoblnaiiy and
abuse, in performing the duty that her Great Master
had appointed for her. , . ~
The Rostne Aasomation and Abode for Fnendiosa
woman, if not founded by her. yet owe. in a great mea
sure, their usefulness to her unrwmttea labors. Women
have been finally saved, throosh bar. Instrumentality*
who have, been in prison scores of times, and many
many of the deserted end friendless children of shame
now owe their restitution to society and virtue to her
untiring efforts for their recovery. Never losing bqr
self.command.-hcr smile always welcomed the pern,
tents return from her lapse into sinful ways, end
neither, the brightest day nor the stormiest night de
terred Mrs. Townsend from accompanying her to a
place of refute.
.The last day other life was spent in the full and
faithful penormant'e of her duties, ana she had slept
but a few hours when the Great Redeemer called her to
himself, and she died almost with nor harness on. „
Monuments are mised to the great destroyers of the
bodies of men in the broad b&Ule-no ’a; but for her who
aavod bodies and souls in her career through narrow
lanes and miserable den*, wlmt marble or what bpfs*
can so wall commemorate her worth as priceless, ever*
liv»Bg souls saved from destruction ? *
