which means contention, hut may be yet decided
~ -on the sole question of right, and in this hope wo
confess, with pleasure, wo are encouraged by the
- „ . temperate and reasonable course to
have been, up to the present moment, strictly ad
, hered to by our Government.

’ The markets generally are devoid of animation, and,
.the business of the past week has been light for the sea
son. Bark comes in slowly, andis in limited demand.

. supplies at Richmond. Coffee is arriving more freely.
'Sugar and Molasses are held firmly, but the stooks re
‘ .'strict operations. Cotton—The movement is small, with
out change in prtoes. Fish meet a limited inquiry,
1 -and prioeaare about the same. Fruit—There is mere
doing. No ohange m Hides. Hops are firm. The Tron
market is unchanged. Lumber is dull, and the stocks
moderate, Naval Stores are quiet. Provisions continue
dull, but prices i rule about the same. Rice is steady.
Cloverseed is arrlving freely, and prime lots are in de
. , mend, at full rates. Teas and Tobacco are quiet. Of
Wool, the stook is light Whiskey continue dull. In
3)rj? Goods there is very little doing. The fall trade is
. about over, and grades of all kirds are steady in pries.
The earns may be said of Boots and Shoes, and Hard
