oadvralader.—Yesterday morning the matter of
" Laura Keene vs'. Messrs. Wheatley & Clarke,'waa
- argued on bill, answer; and proof. The matter
originally came before tho oourt on a motion tb re
strain the defendants from performing at the Arch
street Theatre the drama of “Our American Cousin. ’ ’
It was denied originally that Miss Keeno hod pur
chased the play from the author, Tom Taylor, but
the testimony taken in New York shows that the
pieoe was bought from Taylor or his assignee,
.. by the lady; - and the only questions now before the
court are, can a foreigner or bis assignee enjoy the
benefit.oz the copyright; and is there any proper
ty under, the common law in a nianussript produc

Tho counsel for Miss Keene argued that the acts
of Congress give to the American purchaser ’of a
manuscript, production from a foreign author tho
benefitorthe copyrightlaw. The subject is one
of great' importance r to authors and publishers.
