RELIGIOUS INTELLIGENCE
MEETING ON Tile AMERICAN BOARD or COM
MISSIONERS FOR FOREICN liIISSIONS.—SeveraI re
ligious convocations of unusual importance are
announced to take place in this city during the
coming week. Among those, the annual meeting
of the A Illettrall Boole! of Contotivvione, t for
Foreign Missions will perhaps command tho widest
attention. It is expected that more than a thou
sand delegates will be present on this occasion,
among which number will be included a large
number of names from every section of the Union,
anti not a low who occupy the most eminent posi
tions in the branches of the Church which they re
present. The SOSSiODS will be held in the Now
School Presbyterian Church, on Washington
Square, (Rev. Albert Barnes, pastor), and will com
mune° on Tuesday, the 4th inst., at 4 o'clock
P.M. Tho object of this national gathering is the
extension of Christ's kingdom by organized mis.
sionnry effort ; and as this is a subject in which
Christians of every name are supposed to be inte
rested, and as lucid views are likely to be elicited
with reference to it, from some of the ablest minds
in the ministry, and, moremer, as the delibera
tions will be free to the public, it is not unlikely
that the doily gatherings at the First Presbyterian
Church will be overflowing. We learn that the
characteristic hospitality of our citizens has been
handsomely exhibited in assigning abundant pri
vate accommodations for all the strangers who are
expected to attend.
ANNPAI, 311SI4IERS' PRAYER-AIKI:TING.—On the
12thof September a meetinget ministers was held at
Jayne's Hall, at the close of the Noon-day meeting

those who are not ministers have been earnestly
invited to attend. In the afternoon, at 4 o'clock,
the ministers and their congregations purpose meet
ing at Jayne's Ball, in the capacity of a general
prayer-meeting for the furtherance of the same
union object. It has also been suggested, end will
ho generally responded to, that ministers favora
ble to this effort will devote a portion of to-mor
row to preaching upon the subject of the Linty
of the .'qpirit among Cheteliatte of every name to
their respective congregations. Thom will doubt
less be en unusual amount of rapes preadting in
our pulpits to-morrow, and if it is followed by an
equal display of union practice, the effort will not
have bean In vain.
