Of the fact that the atmospheric heat of the pre
emit irommer has attained a mush greater ave
rage than that of 1857, up to a corresponding
per Lid, we have thought It might ba a matter or
Interest to the reader to compare the bills of mor•
tants for the lot week in July of both seasons,
and front which we obtain the following ?malt:
Number of deaths for the week audios July 31,
1850, melee 196; females, 141; Total 342. Au
gust I, 1257, males, 170; females, 144; Total 314.
Of this number, there have been, this year, 202
deaths of children under Are yams of age, against
21:1 last year.
0( the 314 deaths, lett year, 74 were from chole
ra infantum, 23 from convulsions, 32 from consump•
tion, 19 from maresmns, and 20 were still-horn,
against which the following numbers are set down
for the present year: cholera infentnns, 84, con
vulsion., 13, consumption, 35, marasmua, 12, still
born, 7.
From these figures It wilt be men that the five
mast prollito sources of death lest year mark in
the aggregate 188 against 151 attributed to the
corresponding sources this year; the Increased
mortality of the present year being ascribed, In the
bill of lad week, to a greater prevalence waif than
1 art season of room of congestion, lattammations
of the brain, bowels, lunge, ■nd that clam of
human ailments. Upon the whole, however, the
parallel between the two periods here specified le
rather remarkable, and when we consider the
ice 00000 of population during the year—which
may be met down, at a moderate calculation, at
15,000 souls, even if we make allowance for
the present unusual exodus from the city—the
addition of but rwenty-eigke deaths tut week over
the deaths of the oorreep)ndlog week last year,
If, we think, a moat conclusive argument in favor
of the present healthy condition of our elty. This
is made still more apparent when we consider that
the summer of 11557, here, was one of unusual
healthfulness. In neither tu there been the
slightest prevalence of epidemic, although in the
early part of both seasons snob gloomy forebodings
were by many entertained.
To the writer it has always seemed at once Im
politic and ungrateful to be forever prognosti•
eating such evils ahead, although there can be no
question as to the duty of them whoa* office It is,
making all possible miter) , preventative prow
ration, in large cities, for such an emergency.
The summer has reached its culminating point,
but it is not yet over, and considering the fact that
in this latitude the reason of all others mart pro
ductive of d Ise sset—ospecially of an infectious cha
racter—is when summer merges Into fall, too much
pains eantiot be taken by the proper authorities to
preserve the well-earned reputation abroad of our
city for Its charm:am:silo cloudless'. The foot
should not be cloaked that very many of our
streets, especially towards the outskirts of the
city, are at this time In a most offensive condition.
The work of seareniting has for some months past
been either sadly neglected or abandoned alto
gether. The copious Owner of rain with *blob
we bays just been favored, may mitigate tempo
rarily the evil streets of this neglect ; yet, unless
the cause is removed, it teed* but one return of a
hot sun to fill the air with a noxious effluvia, from
whieb the most serious consequences may result.
Let those who inhabit these neglected localities
see to it that the proper authorities let promptly
in the discharge of this important duly.

THE USE OF FARINA IN ITS MOST
REALTLIFULi FORM.—The working of Farina,
ise connected with the peculiar process by which
WING'S FARINA CRACKERS are mode, is kismet]
only to Mr. WINO'S establishment.
The superior quality of his CRACKERS has already
caused them to become widely known, nod they ere now
in extensive use.
. . .
Their remarkable excellence and great popularity
have attracted the attentiou of those manufacturing
other description* of Crackers, and many of those per
sons buy WING'S CRACKER*, in order to supply
their cuatontern alth Farina Crackers also.
. .
One or two Individants, however, have been offering
the ordinary kind, which they make under tho name of
Farina Crackers, and have succeededuln selling them to
small extent.
. The selling of ouch Crackers for Padua bee a ten
dency to Injure the reputation of TRUE FARINA
OBACR NILS, made by Mr WING.
Errors of thin character, however, are usually tor•
tected on being properly expelled.
FARINA CRACKERS ARE MADE ONLY BY MR
They are not made by others, because the process is
Unknown to them, nor Dave they nuttabla works—these
require a scientific arrsuqemeut, and great care le ne

COWL
The practice required iu order to prepare and work
the meter's' euecengfully is a eel-loom impoilment to
other,.
The Impossibility of arranging the sponge without
experience In this particular branch or kind of material,
and the critical knowledge itellspensable in producing
such an extremely light and nourishing substance as
WINO'S FARINA CRACKERS, cannot be accom
plished without consummate skill and the meant Decora
tor). to carry it out.
The whole business require, great care and good
judgment, and must he carried on extensively in order
to make it successful or prolitable.
The objects to be attained by Mr. WINO were to pro
duce a superior article at a price suitable for all clarets.
For this he hat labored leng, and subjected himself to
an adequate milky of capital.
The pretence, therefore, on the part of any one else,
that they make FARINA CRACKERS, Is simply a de
vice reqorted to in the hope of selling !rne of an arti
cle than they otherwise would do, If offered under the
proper name.
With the slew of a largely osteinled Intainens, Mr.
WING has continued for sonic time past the present
low price for his Crackers.
It has been freely as.etted by prominent Cracker
Bakers in the city of New York, that with the groat
amount of hand labor bestowed on WING'S FARINA
CRACKERS It Is impossible for him to realise a profit
at the present price.
Mr. WING'S object, howerer,is to place his CRACK
ERS In the market at a rale that will enable ell 'tenons
to are them freely, and not advance the price, unless
absolutely necessary.
The increased use of WINO'S FARINA CRACKERS,
with the commendatory remarks of Parents, Teachers,
nod Physieians, as well so manypersons In various poet
lions in life, whose powers have been more or less weak•
ened by sedentary habits or occupations, to strong proof
of the healthful and beneficial results which have at
tended their use.
Their great nourishing properties, and the ease with
which the stomach digests this pleasant foal, are well
establinhed, and there can bo, on tenting them, no doubt
of this fact, viz: that the same of
CRACKERS will make morn good blonl, and act more
kinily upon the delicate texture of Um Moment., thou
anything else ever introduced in this or any other form
