The judge, after a few remarks relative to the
,crime of eountolfelting, and the testimony in this
particular Astute, sentence' Markt° 4 years in the
Eastern Penitentiary, with.hail labor.
John Y. Castor and Luoitte Bohwartz, convicted
a few, weeks since of passing eounterfeitiold and
' (diver coin, Were, called up for sentence. Mr.
Daniel Dougherty, in mitigation of sentence,
urged on behalfrof his client, Castor, the facts
that tho jury had, on finding him guilty, recom
l'inended bins to the mercy 'of the court, which
ought always to be takertinto ootudder.ttion;• that
'the evidence adduced agatnetshim on trial showed
that he had passed only twosoounterfeit quarters;
that his client had moved &most eieellent charac-
ter up to the time of the commission of this offence,-
