Meeling of the Rtaekholelers.—The annual meet
ing of the stockholders of the Pennsylvania Rail
road wasteld at 10 o'clock yeeterday morning, at
Sarisim-street Hall. Mr. Lewis Elkin called the
meeting to' order: The Chair wee taken by bis
honer Mayor Vaux. Mr. Edmund Smith wee ap.
pointed secretary, and he proceeded to read the
aanual repert, which. will be found in full, on our
first page.
On motion of Mr. Neal, the report wee accepted and
ordered. printed. .
Mr. Moncure Robinson said he was 'bout to offer
eothe resolutions, and.wonld premise them by saying
ihet be designed no reflection open the administration
of theeotnpany. . Companies like the Pennsylvacht
Railroad Company were too apt to become close car
7porations. :This is wrong. We start with excellent
beards of directors • but men change. The man is not
the acme to - morr ow as-he is to-day. The Permsyl-
Verdi 'Railroad Company bad thus far been fortunate
in Ms board of dims:torsi but be had great confidence
iatbe ounce of preyentibn. -Re wee in favor of the ap
pointment of a committee of large etockholders to form
a ticket to be voted for at the miming election. Ile wee
also desirous that the fullestaccess should be had to the

interims of the oompany in the Marietta and Oineinnati
Railroad Company, and In the , embarrassments of the
latter. He urged that the Penwsylvania Railroad Com
pair, should at least inquire kite the affairs of the Ma
rietta Compan with a view to some action. Ile thought
tag company ac o uld at least endeavor,to secure the ad
vantages promised by the completion of the Marietta,
Company, and to save what had already been invested
the Pennsylvania Railroad Company in the enter
prise. Mr. Powell offered the following resolution,'
which was seconded by J. Edgar Thompson :

they are hereby, authorized to examine into and report
the condition and circumstances ,of the .Marietta and
'Cincinnati Railroad Company; also, upon the probable

Mama Loam iron JANUARY.—The N Y Courier and
Enquirer publishes the following table of marine kisses
for the past mouth, showing an aggregath of eighteen
vessels, of which five were ships, three barques, two
brigs, and eight schooners. The total value of property
lost was four hundred and ninety-three thousand five
hundred dollars. This is exclusive of damages to ves
sels not amounting to a total loss, and of partial losses
of ono.
Ai compared with the month of January, 1857, the
strove shows a decrelrse in the number of vessels lot
and missing of one hundred and seven, and in the value
of property lot amounting to three million and forty
nine thousand two hundred dollars.
The vessels reported In this Hat are chiefly Arnett an,

front a United States port, or known to be loured in

alone require more aid than it is able to afford them, con
