' The c,oinfort and convenience of passengers has been
consulted in the conetruotion of these ears in an emi

will alone comPensate, in the Intimation of the public.,
for Whatever disadvantages may be thought to have at
tached to the roads themselves. The entire length of
theme care is nineteen feet els Inches, and their width
seven feet The body of the cars is raised twenty-two
feet from the ground, andis made convenient of access
by sreansof "taps on eltbei aide of the platform'. The
material of the seats and backs le crimson plush, and
the cars are intended to seat twenty-four porous.
• The means of ventilation secured in the cmistruction
'of these core is an admirable feature, and furnishes
another great Improvement upon the old omnibuses,
with their closed window, In stormy weather, confining

The number of ears already finished will probably bo
doubled within a fortnight, and wilt even then, doubt.

the roads may warrant.
Menton STUDISNTS.—The medical students, as well

Gifts and Hard Times.—The Interchange of
presents among friends Is the eurest cement of friend
ship, regard, and affection. There are certain periods
of the year at which pre'sents are more looked after and
more prized than at others Tho Hallowed a Merry
Christmas Time" is, especially, one of those periods.
On these holidays, the young and the old all expect
alike from their friends some token of affection; and es
almost every one le blessed with many friends, and
therefore, has to make many presents, it behooves, in
such hard times, to study what and where to buy
Many who have on former occasions made costly pre
sents, will fl dlt more prudent and convenient to select
their presents, this year, more eultable to the times,
the more en as not the rest of the article, but the re
