'CITY ITEMS.
THE SIMI/ STREET 4AILROAFI, AGAIN% The
"city Heel' , which appeared in a recent number of
Tee Palms, recommending our citizens to pay a per

tide rapidly progressing Improvonient, had the effect of
bringing several thousand portions to the scene of these
operations on Saturday afternoon.' The rush to witness
this' interesting spectacle was really immense • and ea

eaPictitiOnd, We may now state that great numbers of

SO great woo the interest felt In the good cheer with
which the mon pushed fOrwird their work, that among
the entire mass of spectators there was not the slightest
diatrirbance; and, from coati:lents which we heard re.,
peaMdly made, we very muchdoubt if there has been
any clue of performers in our midst for years put that
elicited more hearty, hamlet, and intelligent applause
upon the manner of their performaaet than wan
ani
versally-bestowed anon these honest, sturdy men who
honor Clod and benefit their fellowmen, by earning
their:',bread in accordance with /leaven's decree, tln

knowing that matte a number of young , men have be

The importance of our citizens misfiling these receipts
as expeditiously as possible, can scarcely be over-esti

necessity of affording employment to, labOrers, to tiM
cantina of their ability to do so,

now sweeping over the land, and all who can should
give their countenance and support to every measure
that has for its object the ameliorating of the condition
of !hinge, by furnishing the' industrial classel with
work and bread. Our city authorities are doing all
they can, and we daily recordacts of private munificence.
Among others Worthy of note, we lee that the great
