Wo learn that tho. prospects of saving the steamship
Canadian, whoso -pilot TUn' her on tho Pillars below
Quebec last June, are very gloomy. Her coai aud heavy
Iron works have not been removed, and consequently
every tide, as it rifles and ’ falls, grinds her bottom on
the reef on which she lies, and odds seriously to tho da
mage already done. She Is now in a vastly worse posi
tion than she was two months since, and every tide in
creases the difficulty of removing her.

Br schr Reindeer, Frith, at Now York yesterday from
Bermuda, about 21st last,-left‘brigs T M Mayhew, for
New York in four days? Castilian, irorn New York, just
arrived. Sept 25th, in tho Quit Stream, passed large
quantities of pitch pine lumber and part of the deck of a
vessel; was painted yellow, and had boon but a short
time in that condition.

miles, east bf Charleston, by the steamship Philadel
phia*, had lost mainmast the night of tho 23d, in a col
lision with a barque: the M PR won making for Charles
ton; needed no assistance.

put into New Haven 28th inbi, having been run into by
a schr said to belong to Now Brunswick, near tho light
boat, which carried away mainboom and stauncheous.
Put in for repairs. Captain Chase was severely injured

such having a general oversight of its business transac
tions, has Issued notes and acceptances for his private
purposes, without tho knowledge or authority of tho
Board, or of any of its officers, to tho amount of SSX,-

Mr. Porter, but not entered upon any of the books of
