Knapp’s Patent ResliT OlT^Lamp.— Wo were
recently much gratified by an examination of this valua
ble lamp, and feel confident that it i» destined to effect a
complete revolution, in that important part of domestic
economy which consists in tho supply of light, whore
over gas has not beou introduced. Resin Oil Is infi
nitely clicapor than any of the ordinary matoriala for
producing light, and possesses over tho burning fluid
tho inostimablo advantage of being perfectly safe, as it
will not explode. It furnishes a remarkably brilliant
aud steady light, fully equal, if notsuporlor, togas. The
difficulty has heretofore been to find a lamp adapted to
this fluid, and thousands of dollais have been spent in
experiments to accomplish this object. By a very inge
nious, but simple contrivance, this ond is secured by
Knapp's Patent Lamp, and a clear and brilliant, yet
perfectly safo light, for threo hours, can bo obtained by
tlio consumption of ouo cent's worth of reslnoil. County
rights in Pennsylvania can bo had at the Agency, No.'

[From the Boston ZVonjcripf )
There are seventy-four talcs and fugitivo pieces in
this volume, all stamped with the spirit, originality and
vivucit/’of the author, and which will bo road with
more satisfaction than any other work that has emana

j, [From the AVio York Courier ]
Fanny’s pstyle has tho vhacity, terseness, and epi
grammaDcal liveliness of the French school, while hor
fancy is so full of goulal tenderness, and us teeming with
drutnatlo scones and fmdiugs aa the most hearty
and idiomatic of English writers. There are some ’.vho
complain that sho is a mere paragraphs, and so sho is,
and so were Solomon, and Franklin, and Pope, and Mon

be an odd objection to make to any author, that he com
pressed lutoa paragraph tho wit which another iu vain
attempted to dJffnao through au essay or a lolumo.
Fanny Fern climbed into a reputation through the great
est difficulties. She wrote in obscure journals, and
compelled the world to recognise her genius in spite of
tho unfortunate channels through which nUe addressed
[■From the New York- Dispatch.]
Tills handsome brochure contains upwards of 300

which only n kiK*u-sighted woman, whoso soul is in her
work, can observe and fasten upon the winds of her
pupils—hor readers; uor is it religious, yet it is replete
with the truest and most attractive piety.
