reacheri qualified to conduct Young l.adies through all the
branches of inftru&ior. necessary and ornamental j and if
there are fo«ie good Schools in the principal towns, as they
do not i« common take in boarders, the benefit is loft t»
many rich families living ia the country, which woHld, at
any rate, bring np their children in a dillinjjuifhed way.
This gave the idea of eftabUfhing a Boarding School,
whose plan was firft announced to the public three month*
ago in the Maryland Oaiette, and which has already d»-
f.rved the attention and encouragement of Come of tho
mod worthy families in Baltimore.
Mrs. Lacombe, a French lady, Dire&refs of this Aca
demy, has endeavoured to join every conveniency that
eould poflibly afliit her in giving the molt finiihed eduoa*
tion to her pupils.
Englilh grammar, geography, and arithmetic, are do
monftrated by Mrs. Beck from London, who ii also qua
lified to give particular leUbns in drawing.
French is constantly praSifcd in the school, besides tha
daily IclTons given on grammar by a gentleman from Paris,
who was there a PreCd'ent of a College.
Writing, common sewing, and every kind of embroide
ry md tambour are likevrife taught JHJeoufly. \
The young boarders especially are attended to with the
tttmoft care; the house is ample and convenient; accom
modations abundant; fervar.ts and fupermtendents ntmi>
rous; in ihort, nothing is spared that can aiTurd them either
utility or conveniency.

NOTICE is hereby given, that agreeably to an a<fl of
Congress of the Unit d Statu, of the sth June, 1794.
for laying duties upon Carriages for the conveyance ot
persons—" That there shall be levied, collected, and p .id,
upon all carriages for the conveyance of persons which
fcall be kept by or for any perfan, for his or her own us:,
or to let out to hire, or for the conveying of
the fcveral duties and rates following, to wit:"
For and upon every coach, the }early sum of 10dollars.
For and upon every chariot the yearly sum of 8 dollars.
Far and upon every phaeton and coachee, the yearly sum
of 6 dollars.
For and upon every other four wheel and two wheal top
carriage, thfi yearly sum of 2 dollars.
And upon every other two » heel carriage one dollar.
