This gave the idea of tftablifhing a Boarding School,
whose plan was firft announced to the public three months
ago in the Maryland Gazette, and which has already de«
fsrved the attention and encouragement of some of the
mod worthy families in Baltimore.
Mrs. Licombe, a French lady, Direelrefs of this Aca
demy, has endeavoured to join every conveniency that
could poflibly aflitl her in jiving the mofi finiflicd educa
tion to her pupils.
Engliih grammar, geography, and arithmetic, are do
me nf trite d by Mrs. Beck from London, who is also qua
lified to give particular leflcns in drawing.
French is oonftantly praSifed in the school, befUes the
daily lessons given on grammar by a gentleman from Paris,
who was there a Preiident of a College.
Writing, common firwing, and every kind of embroide
ry and tambour are likewise taught afliduouily.
The young boarders especially are attended to with the
uttnoft care: the hnufe is ample and convanieat; accom
ntuaations aoundanti servants and faperintendants nume
rous; in fliort, nothing is fparcd that can afford them either
utility or conveniency.

Congress of the Unit d States, of the sth June, 1794,
for laying duties upon Carriages for the conveyance cf
pcrl'ons— ■" That there lhall be levied, eollecled, and paid,
upon all carriages for the conveyance cf persons, which
(hall be kept by or for any ptrlon, for his or her own ufs>
or to let out to hire, or for the conveying of paifengers,
the several duties and rates following, to wit s"
