THE Grammar School formerly attached to this
College, having gradually declined through the
incrtafing infirmities of the late Prefcdent far some
time before his death, it is proposed by the fubferiber
immediately to revive it, and to put it under tne raaft
careful inftru&iort and government. The Latin,
Greek, and French Languages (hall be taught in it, to
gether with the principles of English Grammar, of
Geography, and practical Geometry. Parents, l.ks
wifc, who do not cfnrfc that their children ihould go
through the intire eourfe of (tudies in the College,
may no*? have them inftrutfted in any particular
branches in the fame manner, on the fame terms, and
to the fame extent as in the College—particularly in
the antiquities and mythology of Rome, in Geogra
phy# in the Mathematics, in Natural Philosophy and
Astronomy, in Moral Philosophy and the Principles
of Civil Government, in Eloquence, and in the Ele
ments of History. They may address their children
to any of the Mailers in the College, or to
SAMUEL S. SMITH.
N. B. The young gentlemen shall be under the
fame rules of moral discipline a« the ether itudenu —
lhall be fubjeiled to public examinations, and, at leav
ing the College, shall be entitled to public testimonials
of the branches they have studied, and of their prufe
cieucy in - them.

THE formistobeo&agonal.— he foundation is to be
{lone, to be funk thirteen feet below the bottom of
the water table or the furface of the earth, and to be
commenced of the diameter of twenty nine feet.—Front
such commencement to the height df four feet the fount
dation is to be laid solidly and from thence to the bottom,
of the water table, the foundation wail Vto ke nine feet:
high and nine feet thick. . :
The diameter of the base from .the bottom of the watei*
table to the top thereof (where the o&agonal pyramid if?
to commence) is to be twenty eight feet four inches and
wall is there to be seven feet thick—the wall of the o&igon*
al pyramid is to be fix feet thick at the bate thereof, on
the top of .the water table.
The height of the building frorh the bottom of the wa
ter-table, and from the furface of the earth, is to be nine
ty feet to the top of the under the iloor of the
lantern ; where the diameter is to be sixteen and one half
feet and the wall three feet.—the v/jiole of the walls is to
bebuilt of stone : the water table is to be. capt with sawed
stone, at least eight inches wide and sloped the top to
turn off the water. The outside of the walla, is to be fac
odwith hewn or hammer drefTed stone, having four win
dows in the north east and five windows in the south wefl;,
The falhes are f be bung with hinges, and each faih is
to have twelve panes of glass, eight by tfn inches
On the top of the {lone work is to ba. a framed tier of
joists, beded therein, planked over with oak plank, exten-.
ding two feet beyond the wall thereby formingan eave which
is to be finilhed with a cornice, the whole having a de-i
scent from the ceutre fuflficient to throw off the waiter, and
to be covered with copper. A complete and fufficieut iron
lantern in the octagonal is to reft thereon. The eight
corner pieces or stanchions of which, are to be built in the
Wall to the depth of ten feet. ' These stanchions to be
nearly three inches fqu-are in the lower ten feet, and
inches by i i-a inches above. The lantern is to be ten feet
and nine inches in diameter, it is also to be ten feet high
from the floor to the bottom of the dome or roof and to
have a dome or roof of five feet and nine inches in height.
The whole space between the posts or upright pieccs at the
angles is to be occupied by the fafhcs,whi<sh re to be mould
ed on the inftdc and flruck solid. Eachfalh is to have twer
,ty eight panes of glass, fourteen by twelve inches. A part
of the falh on the south weft fide wto be huntr w i t h hin
ges for a convenient door to go oat on the platform. The
rafters of the lantern are to be framed into an ire n
over which is to be a copper funnel,thro* which the smoke
may pass into a large copper ventilator in the form of a
man's head, capahleof containing one hundred gallons.
This head is to be turned by a large vane ; so that .the
hole for renting the f*iokc, may be always to leeward.
Eight dormant ventilators arc to be fixed in the roof, a large
■ curved air pipe is to be pafl'ed through the floor, and a dole
Hove is to be provided and fixed in the lantern. There
arc to be eight pairs of flairs to ai'cend to the lantern, the
entrance to which is to be by a trap door covercd with
copper. The building is to be furnifluid with two com
plete ele&rical cundti&ors, ©r rods with points. The floors
to \>e laid with plank, of at l£sgt one inch and one
, half in thicknefc. The entrance to the light house is to
be well fecure<l. by a strong door hang uponhinges with
a strong Lock and latch complete.
Also a frame House to be thirty four fret in front and
sixteen feet deep with a cellar under it. The cellar walls
to he eighteen inches thick and /even feet high. f

The deling* and fides of the House arc to be plaifte::-
cd with two coats ; alt the wood work inside and out is to
be well painted-and the whole to be fimfhed in a plain de
cent manner.
An Oil vault is to fee built twenty feet b? twelve feet in
the clear, arched over and covered wit. 1 earth or fitndovcr
which a {had kto be built— It is to befurnifhed with nine
strong Cedar Ciltefniwith covers, each capable of contain
ing two hundred gallons.
The entrance to the vault is to be feenred by a strong
<Hor. A well is to be funk at a convenient diltance, and
fumifliedwith a curb, bucket and rope completely. ,
