Tht said Francis James waa horn at or near
Kidwelly, in the county of Caermartben, and il
living, is about the agp of thirty four yaars, and
about the year 1779, was a foremaft man on bparO 1
the Milford, a merchant ship, belonging to tht
por- of Bristol, and failed lor Jamaica in Septem
ber, 178 c, afterwards he returned to lirillrl
an in November, 1781, was pressed in King
road, Bristol, and sent oh board the king's frigate
called the Dsiomede, in which he failed from Ply
mouth on a cm iso, and on board of which he ai
terwirds became a quarter gunner anddeferted
the said ship at Charleston Bar in North-America
