The committee having been notified by
the Secretary of State, that the Agent of
claims and appeal« appointed by the Prefi
ti* dent of the United States is to embark
immediately foriondon, and that he i? Au
thorized to bindthe United States under the
direction of Mr. Jay, for the costs and da
magea, attending the prosecution of the
claims of American ; that the necef
l'ary counsel will be engaged on the part of I
p the United States, and, that if the parties
' will obtain copies of the proceedings of the
Courts on their refpeiftive cases, the fcx
penfes of the records will be reimfeurfed by
tire Unitfcjl States,
They are of opinion that ineafures
— ought to be immediately taken for obtain
ing authenticated copies of such records and
proceedings in all cases where they have
not already been preserved, and will under
take to obtain them for all ftich of their
fellow-crtizens as fha.ll within zo days from
this date furnifh the names of the veflels
and matters ; the ports or places where
on tried or conde;ruled, with fuc.h other iufor
frji malion as the circumstances of the cafe
may require.
They recommend to those who ha\'t al
ready obtained the copies of the proceed
ings of the Courts to have them fx.-irtimed
bv l'ome person of legal knowledge ; that if

At the special request of the IJcr'eta
ry of {late, the committee appointed
by tlie merchants of Philadelphia, have
undertaken to obtain copies of the pro
ceedings of the ttourts in the Britiih
Illands, in the Weft-Indies: Bermuda,
the Bahamas, and in their colonies, in
North America, upon the cases of A
merican vessels, and property tried in
the courts in any of the said lfkiuds, or
colonies.
The Committee therefore give this
public notice, that all per Cong concerricd
who have not already obtained authen
tic copies of the preceedings, in their
particular cases, may furnifh the Secre
tary of State the names of the
veffrls, and mailers, the places wlieic
the trial was had, the time when, and
such other circumltances as the nature
of the cafe may require.
It is deemed important that thofc
particulars be furnilhed as soon as possi
