Merchants.
The committee having been notified by
the' Secretary of State, that the Agent of
claim* and appeal* appointed by the Presi
dent of the United States is to embark
immediately for London, and that he is au
thorized to bind the United States under the
direAion of Mr. Jay, for the costs and da
mages, attending the prosecution of the
claims of American citizens ; that the neces
sary counsel will be engaged on the part of"
the United States, and, that it the pities
will obtain copies of the proceed ings of the
Courts on their refpe<£live tales, the 'x
penfes of the records will be reimbutfed by
the United States,
They are of opinion that measures
ought to be immediately taken for obtain
ing authenticated copies of such records and
proceedings in all cases where they have
not already been preserved, and will under
take to obtain them for all such of their
fellow-citizens as fl»all within 10 days from
this date furnifc the names of the veflels
and matters ; the ports or places where
tried or condemned, with such other infor
mation as the circumstances of the cafe
mav require.
They recommend to those who have al
ready obtained the copies of the proceed
ings of the Courts to have them examined
by foine person of legal knowledge ; that if
theylhould.be fouud defective in any rcf
pedt the deficiency may be supplied, at the
fame time that the records are applied for.

Islands, in the Weft-Indies: Bermuda,
the Bahamas, and in their colonies, in

the courts in any of the said Islands, or
colonies.
