Five Dollar Bills of the Bank of the
United States.
ALL that have appeared have the lefrer
F. for their Alphabetical Mark.
The Texture of the Paper is thicker and
whiter and it takes the ink more freely
than the genuine paper.
The O. in the word Company is smaller
than the M. and other letters of th«t word,
so that a line extended from rhe top of tl.e
O, to touch the top of the M. wouldext*»d
confiderab'y above the range of the whole
word.
In the word United the letters «re nar
rower and closer together than th» reft of
the bill.
The i and fin the word promise are not
parallel) the yincliftlng much more forward
than the i.
The engraving is badly executed, the
f.rokes of all the Letteri are stronger and
the device in themargin particularly ismuch
coarser and appears darker than in the true
bills. Some of the counterfeits bear date in
17gi —Whereas the Bank was not in opera
tion till December, and no five dollar bills
were iffueri in iliat y?ar.
T<wcnty Dollar Bills of tlx Bank of North
America.
ALL that have appeared have the letter
| B. for their alphabetical mark.
They are printedon a paper nearly fimi
.irtothat of the counterfeit Five Dollar
Notes above described; the engraving is
belter executed, and they approach nearer
to the appearance of the genuine bills.
The fine ruled lines through ihe word
Twenty, in the body of the bill, are in num
ber thirteen in the genuine bills, and but
twelve in the counterfeits.
The word Company is much like the fame
word in the Five Dollar Bills as described
above, the o being Jei's than the m, and ©•
(hers following.
There is no stroke to the / in the word
Nprth whereat in ihe genuine bills the stroke
is well defined.
The letters ent in the word Twenty, to
the left hand at the bottom, do not come
down to the line, but are so cut as to give
an irregular appearance to the word, the
Tw and the > going below them.
The signature Nixon, has the appear
ance of being written with lamb-black and
oil, and differs from other inks used in
printing th bills and the caftiicr's iigna
ture.
It is supposed these forgeries were commit
ted in foineofthe Southern States, as all the
counterfeit* (hat have
from thence, and two persons have been ap
prehended in Virginia,on suspicion of being
the author of them.
The reward of ONE THOUSAND DOL.
LARS will be pa'd to any Person or
who Ihtll tftfeover and prosecute to convic
tion the several offenders of the following
or any of them, viz.
The person or pcrfone, who manufa&ur
ed the paper on which the Bills are printed.
The person or persons, who engraved the
plates.
The printer or printers, of the bills.
Every person who has acted as a principal
in any other way, in the counterfeiting and
uttering tbe said bijls.

April 22, 1794>
Other counterfeit bills
of the Bank of the United States have ap
pearcdin circulation.
The denomination is of TWENTY
DOLLARS, and the alphabetical niaik il
the letter si.
They may be diftinguiflied from the gt*
nuine by the following MARKS :
The paper of the counterfeits is of a
more tender texture and gloffey firrtace
than the genuine, and there is no water
mark in therfi.
The letter C. in the tVortf Cafliier, in
he true bills is strongly marked, whereas**
in the counterfeits, the whole letter is a
fine hair stroke, evidently in an unfinifhed
state. The letter* iri the w«Jfd demand,
is badly formed and the whole wotdill do«o
and there rs no comma at thetfad oi it, a§
there is in the genuine bills.
The marginal device, k much daiker
in the falfe, than in the genuine bills ow
ing to the fliade strokes being coarser, much
nearer together, and consequently muck
more numerous. This difference strikes the
eye at firft view.
The fame reward of ONE THOUSAND
