Charles Sharpe and James McDon nell, two Mollie Maguires were hanged at Mauch Chunk, on Tuesday morn ing, at 10:40 a. m. Says the Warren Ledger : Last winter the Legislature passed a bill making Titusville a lcg"al place for holding Court. The ConVatutionality of the bill was tested by bringing it before Judge Church's Court in Mead ville, and his decision was against the billon the ground of unconstitution ality. It was carried to the Supreme Court, where the decision of the lower court was affirmed. And so Titusville is compelled to go to Mcadville with all her legal business. An exchange says : The correct view, which experience brings to each man, is that advertising should be in cluded in the general estimate of ex penses, as regularly as store rent, clerk hire and insurance. It it often said that a good stand at a high rent is better thaii a poor one rsiit free. Well, sir, advertising brings, a inan before' the public in a way that makes any "stand" good. The best stand you can have is to be in the newspapers. These are facts brought out in fall trade. Most of our business houses should be . so extensively engaged in advertising that it could be made d special depart-1 ment. The great question ith every firm is what does tl; 9 public know about US, uud the prvirr .j'-'y ! - : what we tell them. That is the true view of advertising. The Brookville Republican fur ther remarks that, oh Monday after noon last, the 0th inst., Mrs. Henry Chunibcrlin, of Pichurdsville, Pu., committed suicide by hanging herself to a rafter in an upper story of their house. On the afternoon mentioned, she secreted herself froH the other members of the family, and -securing a rope placed it around her neck, and having fastened the other end to the rafter, jumped from the bod, breaking her neck. She was a lady of many good qualities, loved and respected in the community lii which she lived, but of late her mind hint been consid erably impaired through, religious ex citement, which was doubtless' the cuu-e of her rash act. Mr. Chamber--liu is one of our best citizens, i:d has sympathy of the entire community in his sad affliction. The Titusville Herald of Jan. 6 says that the intense cold and pressure develops parafline in crude petroleum, and thus wp find that the pipe lilies of the oil region have become so clogged with p?rafline since the advent of the Arctic wave, that they cannot trans port oil in sufficient quantity to keep pace with the production. It is claimed that iu the northern oil field alone fiom five to eight .thousand bar rels of oil are going to waste daily from this cause. In some cases the freezing is not so great a In. others. This is owing to the oil being pumped through pipes suiik in the ground. The drilling and pumping wells have also in many cases been brought to a stand still, partly because the streams which feed the boilers are frozen dry, partly because the men cannot 'stand or work in the derricks with the ther mometer at or below zero. When a young fellow gets too "sick" on the girlb; s'sj s an exchange, it hag often been a difficult task to find a remedy for the 'siokriess." But one young lady has at last discovered a perfect cure, and a few evenings since had occasion to use it. She gave her fellow a vial, telling him not to open it until the next day. It was labelled "for heart disease take three times a day," and it looked as if it contained white powder. He took it to a drug gist and asked him if he could tell what it contained. The clerk took It to his prescription desk, drew out the cork, when he observed a thread fol lowing It attached to the cork. Draw ing it out, he found at the end of the thread a minute mitten. The vial was lined with clean, white paper, which gave it the appearance of being filled. He replaced the mitten and handing it back to the man, said it was a well known but. harmless reme dy for heart disease, and in most cases oiie dose. was. sufficient. The inquirer looked relieved, aiid walked away with his precious bottle snugly tucked in his vest pocket. The girl that gave him that bottle won't, be troubled with any more calls from him.
