Notes of News.
Senators Conklin and P.laine are
announced to speak in Chicago and
other western cities this fall.
It Is denied that Senator Patterson
Is hiding to avoid arrest for alleged
frauds committed in South Carolina.
The Third District Court at Salt
Lake City refused to naturalize two
women who are living in polygamy.
Remington Sons, arm manufac
turers, have settled wiih their creditors
issuing seven per cent, bonds running
five years.
Hocdel, the unfortunate commun
ist who made the recent attempt to
take the life of Emperor William May
11th, has paid the penalty of his crime
by the loss of his head a few mornings
ago in the court-yard of the prison at
Berlin,
The engineers calculated the cen
tre of gravity of Cleopatra's needle so
slcely that when they got its iron
Jacket on and raised it by the trun
nions, it balanced exactly, so that one
man could cause the great mass of two
hundred tons to swing.
Adam Smith, residing two miles
north of Greensburg, was dangerously
gored by a bull. Ho escaped death by
catching a ring in the bull's nose and
twisting it around and crawling under
the fence, near to which he had fallen,
and In that way getting out of reach of
the bull's horns.
Judge William Thomas, of Jack
sonville, III., one of the most noted
lawyers In the State, ninety-two years
old, recently passed through Madison,
Wis., on his bridal tour with his newly
made wife, a lady of seventy. five. He
is probably the oldest bridegroom on
rocord iu this country.
An original plan of giving relief
to the distressed citizens cf Walliu
ford, Conn., was carried out Wednes
day. Trains were run at half fare
from different points to-the scene of
the disaster, and the amount realized
applied to the sufferers. It is estimated
that over 15,000 people were on the
ground, and that the relief fund will
receive nearly $3,000.
A gang of burglars composed of two
Americans and three Englitlimeu has
been captured in a hotel at Sorrento.
They recently effected an entrance
into a wealthy pawnbroker's shop in
Naples and escaped with a large booty.
About the same time valuable articles
of gold and silver were missing from
several churches. A merchant's house
was also invaded by tho same gang, it
is supposed, and robbed of precious
plate.
It is stated that the town of
Somers, in Connecticut, takes upon
itself the responsibility of all burials
within its limits, without regard to the
circumstances of the person to be bur
ied. Rich and poor, high and low, are
treated alike in the matter, aiid for
four dollars, sexton, hearse and grave
are supplied to all alike; so that for
twenty years or more every burial in
the town has been performed by the
town at that cost to those able to pay.

ville, Elk county, Pennsylvania, and
known and being lots number one and

plot or plan of said village, on file In
the Recorder's office of said county of
Elk, lying on the north side of the
Milesb'urg and Smethport Turnpike,
containing eighty perches be the same
more or less, being the same two lots
which Robert Wilbur aud wife, by
deed dated 2d October, 1871, recorded
in deed book "O" page 881, fcc, con
veyed to P'ranklin Showers, on which
there is erected a frame house 10x24 feet
one and one-half stories high with
kitchen and coal shed attached; a
blacksmith and wagon shop 20x08
feet two stories high, a stable 10x24
feet. Also lumber shed about 20xo0
feet. One dozen apple trees and well
of water on premises.

property of Franklin Showers at the
suit of Boyer & Fuess.
TERMS OF SALE.
The following must be strictly com
plied with when the property is struck
off:
1. All the bids must he paid in full
except where the plaintiff or other lien
creditors becomes the purchaser, In
which case the costs on the writs must
be paid, as well as all liens prior to
that of the purchaser, and a duly cer
tified list ot liens shall be furnished,
including mortgage searches on the
property sold, together with such lien
creditor's receipt for the amount of the
proceeds ot the sale, or such portion
thereof as he shall appear to be entitled
to.
2. All sales not settled immediately
will he continued until six o'clock 1
M., at which time all property not set
tled lor will again be put up and sold
at the expense and risk ot the person
to whom it was first struck oil" and
who, iu case ot deficiency at Bitch re
sale, shall make good the same, and in
no instance will the deed be presented
for confirmation unless tho bid is ac
tually settled for with the Sheriff as
above stated.
