TIkjirt A. Parsons, Jr. . Editor THURSDAY APRIL 10, 1874. The Committee on Privileges and Elections, of tbe United States Senate, bas beeo at work for several months, on ao inquiry into the best modes of elect iug President and Vice President. 01 course this will necessitate a constitu tional amendment, which it is hoped will be passed on by tbe several Stales before the Presidential election of 1876 The Senate Committee, it is understood, bas agreed that so much of the present system as will allow each State two votes at large shall be retained as a recogni tion ot the smaller States. These votes will be cast tor the candidate having a plurality of the Votes of tbe whole State Each State will also be entitled to a number of votes equal to its representa tion in the lower branch of Congress. The candidate receiving a plurality of the votes of any district it is proposed shall be entitled to the vote of that dis trict. The committee adopt tbe plurality feature so as to prevent the possibility ol a minority election. The eaodidato hav ing a plurality of the votes of the State, also receives the two votes at large. Tbe system proposed by the committee will break up the undue power now con trolled by the great States. It is un derstood that the report of tbe com mittee will be so framed as to receive the signatures of tbe entire number so as to divest it of any appearance of partisan ship. Monument to Mr. Sumner. Tbe colored people of Washington City have taken hold of tbe proposition to erect a suitable monument to the late Senator Sumner, having formed an association and elected a treasurer, who is placod under $10,000 bonds, to receive contri butions. Tbe monument is to be of bronze, life-size, and to represeut Mr. Sumner in the act of addressing the Senate, with bis Civil Rights Bill in baud. Tho cost is not to exceed 75, 000. Georgia obtains 88,000 a year from tho labor of her convicts. Portland, Me., is so far east that it begins its day's work earlier than any other city in the couutry. The farmers around Charleston are now shipping largo quantities of green pens and strawberries to the North. -pUVSlCIANS AND DRUUOISTS. A prominent New York physician lately complained to Dundas Dick, about his San dalwood Oil Capsular, slating that some limes they cured miraculously ; tint that a patient of his bad taken them for sonietini without effect. On being informed that several imitations were niado and sold, he inquired and found that his patient had been taking capsulas sold in bottles, and not PUN DAS DICK & CO S. What happened to this physician may have happened to others, and DUN DAS DICK & CO., take this method of protecting "Oil of Sandalwood" from this disrepute. PHYSICIANS who once prescribe the Capsulas will CONTINUE TO DO SO, for they contain the PUKE OIL in the LEST AND CHEAPEST form. OIL OF 3ADLEWOOD is fact super seding every other remedy, sixty Cepsules ONLY being required lo insure a safe and certain cure in six or eight days. From no other medicine can this result be had. Dick's Soft Capsulks solve the prob lem long considered by many eminent phy sicians, of how to avoid the nausea and dis gust experienced in swallowing, which are well known to detract from, if not destroy, the good effects of many valuable remedies. Soft Capsules aie put up in tin-foil and neat boxes, thirty in each, and are the only capsules prescribed by Physicians. jTHESE WERE THE ONLY CAP SULES ADMITTED TO THE LAST PARI9 EXPOSITION. Ayeis Cathartic Pills, For the roller and enre of all derange ments in tho stom ach, liver, and boir. els. They are a mild aperient, and an excellent purgntivo. Being purely vege table, they contain no mercury or mine ral whatever. Much serious sickness and suffering is prevent ed bv their timely use; and every family should have them on hand for their protection and relief, when reuulred. Long experience has proved them to be the saf est, surest, and best of all the fill with which the market abounds. By their occasional use, the blood is liuriilod, the corruptions of the sys tem expelled, obstructions removed, and the whole machinery of life restored to its healthy activity. Internal organs which become clogged and sluggish are cleansed by Ayrr't fUlt, and stimulated into action. Thus incipient disease Is changed into health, the value of whieh change, when reckoned oo tho vast multitudes who enjoy it, can hardly be computed. Their sugar coating makes tiiem pleasant to take, and preserves their virtues unimpaired for any length of time, so that they are ever fresh, and perfectly reliable. Although searching, they are mild, and operate without disturbance to the constitutiou, or diet, or occupation. II direction are atvsn on the wranner to each box, how to use them as a Family 1'hysio, and for the following complaints, which theso fillt rapidly cure: For Iyspeiii or ImligrMion, Listless Bess, Laaraor and K.os of Apitcttitn, they should be taken moderately to stimulate the stom ach, and restore its healthy tone and action. For mMver Complaint nnd its various symp toms, Bilious Meariucbe, Stick Ilruil che, Jisaaitlcci or drevn MlcknM, ltil. lout Colic and Jtllloua r, they should be judiciously taken for each case, to correct the diseased action or remove the obstructions which cause it. For Dysentery or Diarrhoea, hut" one mild dose is generally required. For Rheumatism, Usui, ravel, Pal Eltatloa of the Heart, I'uin In the Ido, Stack and loina, they should be contin uously taken, as rcquued, to change the diseased action of the system. With such change those complaints disu'ppcar. For Dropsy and Dropairal Swellings, they should he taken in large and frequent doses to produce tbe effect of a drastic purge. For Suppression, a large dote should be taken, at it produces the desired effect by sym pathy. As a IMnnor Pill, tike one or two Plllt to promote digestion and relievo the stomach. An occasional dose stimulates the stomach and bowels, restores the appetite, and invigorates the system. Hence it is often advantageous where no serious derangement exists. One who fuels tolerably well, often flnds that a dose of these I'M makes him feel decidedly better, from their cleansii.g and renovating effect on the digestive apparatus. PB SPARED CT Dr. J. C.
