Maj. Gen. JOHN F. IIARTRANFT,

I7on. ULYSSES MERCUR,
Bradford County.
FOR AUDITOR GENERAL!
Brig. Gon. HARRISON ALLEN,
Warren County.
CONGRESSMEN AT LA HOE!
Genera! LEMUEL TODD,

General HARRY WHITE,
Indiana County.
The debt statement shows a reduction
of twelve millions five hundred thousand
and eighty-eight dollars and sixty-two
ceuts (812,588,088.02) for the month
of April.
Let the tender-hearted sympathize.
Poor Stokes, the murderer ot Fisk, is re
ported to be extremely dejected because
his counsel, Graham and Gerry have de
serted him. His friends would give the
world for a sentimental jury. Killings
don't turn out favorably in that respect
it is to be feared the prisoner may event
ually be compelled to resort to the worn
out plea of insanity.
A good umbrella is a sure test ot a
man's respectability. A man may go to
church or to market with a shocking bad
hat or pair of boots, but not with a bad
umbrella and retain his status in society.
