N MILLION UP LiVKS WAVED.
It is one of the most remarkable facts of
this remarkable sge, not (list so many
persons are the victims of dyspepsia or In
digestion, but. its willing victims. Now,
we would not be un lorstood to say that any
one regards dyspepsia with favor, or feels
dispossii to rank it among the luxuries of
life. Far from it. Those who have ex
fcrienced lis torments would scout suoh an
idea. All drtad it, and would gladly dis
penso with its unpleasant familiarities.
Mark Taplcy, who was jolly under all tho
trying c'rcumptanocs in which he was
piaced. never had an attack of dyspepsia,
or his jolity would have speedily foisshen
him. '
Of all the multifarious diseases te which
the human system is liable,
thore Is perhaps no one so
generally prevalent as dyspepsia. There
are diseases more acute and painfur, and
which more freniientlv Drove fatal, but
nono the effeels of which are so depressing
to the mind and so positively distressing to
the body. If there is a wretched being in
the world it. is
A CONFIRMED DYSPEPTIC.
Wo have said that dyspepsia is perhaps
the most universal ol human diseases
This is imphttticallv the case :n the United
States. Whether this general prevalenc
is due to the character of the food th
method of its preparation, or the hast
manner in which it is usually swallowed
is not our province to explain. The great
fact with which wo are called to deal is
this:
DTSPEPSIA PREVAILS
almost tinivei sally.
Nearly every other person you meet is
victim, an apparently willing one: were
this not the case, why so many Batterers,
when a certain, Bpeedy and safe remedy i
within the easy reach of all who will
avail themselves of it? But says a dys
peptic: n hat is this remedy! to which w
reply: This great allevator of human
sulicring is almost as widely known as the
English langunge. It has allay e. I the
agonies of thousands, and is to day carry
conitort ana encouragement to thousand;
of 01 hers. This acknowledged, panacea is
noi.c other than
Dr. H OOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS
Would you know more of the merits of
luis wonderful preparation than can bo
learned from the experience of others?
Try it. yourself, and when it has failed to
fulfil the assurance of its efficacy given by
the proprietor, then nbamlon tint li in it.
LET IT BE REmEMBERED,
first of all. that H OOFLAND'S GERMAN
BITTERS is -j irum beverage.
Ther are composed wholly of the pure
juice or vital principle of roots. Uns
not a mere assertion. The extracts from
which they are compounded are prepared by
one of the ablest of German chemists. Their
effects can be beneficial only in all cases of
the hillinry M'sieru. Uoofiand's German
Uiltoru stand without an equal, actirg
promptly and vigorously upon tho liver
they remove its torpidity and cause health
secretion cf bile thereby supplying
tho stomach with the most indispensable.
elements of sound digestion in proper pro
portions.
They purify the blood, cleansing the
vital Quid of all hurtful impurities and su
planting them with the elements of genuine
ue'wtlitulness.
Now, there are certain classes ot per
sons to whom extreme Bitters are not only
unpnlatablc, but who find it impossible to
tako them without positive discomfort. For
such Dr. IIOOFLAXD'S GERMAN TONIC
has been specially prepared. It is intended
for use where a slight aicoholio stimulati
is required in connection with the well-
known Tonic properties of the pure Ger
man timers.
H OOFLAND'S TONIC
acts with almost marvelous effect. It not
only stimulates the flagging and wasting
energies, but invigorates ami permanently
strengthens its action upon tho Liver
and Stomach thorough, perhaps less
prompt than the Hitters, when trie same
quiintit; is taken is nono the less certain
Indigestion, Biliousness, Physical or Ner
vous prostration, yield readily to its po
tent nulla nee. It gives the invalid a new
and stronger hold upon life, removes de
pression of Foil it. ami inspires cheerful
tiess. But Dr. Hool'land's benefactions to
tne numan race are not corinneu to Ins
celebrated GERMAN BITTERS, or his
invaluable Tonic. Ho has prepared an
other medicine, which is rapidiy winning
us way to popular tavor because ot its in
trinsic metits. This is HOOFLAND'S
POD0PI1YLLIS PILLS, a perfect substi
tute for mercury without any of mercury's
evil qualities.
These wonderful Pills, which are Intend
ed to act upon the Liver, are mainly com
posed of Pudophyllin, or the vital princi
ple of the mandrake root. It is the medi
cinal virtues of this health-giving plant in
a perfectly pure and highly concentrated
form. The Podophyllin acts directly on
the Liver, stimulating its functi ns and
causing it to mr.ko its hillinry secretions in
regular and propo quantities. The inju
rious results which invariably follow the
ise of mercury is entirely avoided by
their use. But it is not upon tho Liver
only that their powers ore exerted. The
extract of Mandrake contained in them is
skillfully combined with lour other ex
traots, one of which acts upon tlu stomach,
one upon the upper bowels, one upon the
lort-cr bowels, and prevents any griping
effect, thus producing a pill that influences
the ent 're digest ive and alimentary system,
in nn equal and harmonious manner, and
its action entirely iree from nausea, vomit
iug or griping pains common to all other
purgatives.
Possessing Miese riiuch desirable qualities
tho Podophyllin becomes invaluable as a
FAMILY MEDICINE.
No household should be without them
They are perfectly safe, require but two
foran ordinary dose, are prompt and effi
cient in action, and when useu in connec
t'on with Dr. Hoofland's German Bitters,
or Tonio, may be regarded as certain spe
cifics in all cases of Liver Complaint, Dys-
pspsia, or any of the disorders to which
the system is ordidarly subject. The
PODOPHYLLIN PILLS
act upon the stomach and bjwels, carrying
off improper obstructions, while the Bitters
or Tonio purify tho blood, strengthen and
Invieoraie the frime, give tone and apps
tite to the stomach, and thus build up the
invalid anew.
Dr. Iloofland. having provided Internal
remedies for disease, has given the world
one mainly for external applicati n, in the
wonderful preparation known as
Da. HOOFLAND'S GREEK OIL.
This Oil is a sovereign remedy for pains
and aches of all kinds.
Rheumatism, Neuralgia, Toothache,
ChilHuius. Sprains, Bulbs, Pain iu the
Back and Loins, Ringworms, etc., etc., all
yield to its external application.
Taken internally, it is a cure for Heart
burns, Kiduey Diseases, Sick Headaches,
Colio, Dysentery, Cholera Morbus, Cramps,
Pains in the Stomach, Colds, Asthma, etc.
