We had always given Cnpt. Grant credit for feeing a gentleman, and nt least sufficiout of a scholar not to make liuiFelt ridiculous in print We still think to! We do not believe that he ever touched pen to or paw the 'Address to the Democrats of Elk County" pub "iiished last week in the Democratic (?) papers. It is '.ho weakest twaddle wo have ever seen in any print assuming to be allcd a newspaper. Those short sentences, so full of pith and point, remind us of the great '-I am" of the ring, Win. A. Wallace, and were doubtless written by that lesser light, his honorablo imitator the carpet bag ringleader of the Democracy here. "The unwise and corrupt waste of "our publio lands, and profligate ex penditures of the public money which "has marked, &c," is rich at least, not to say cool. Here wo might with a good deal of graco come in and say, who gets the six percent? In all conscience, can it bo expected that people who waste the county money can or will take better -aro of the State or National funds? We have been seeking for weeks, for Homo explanation of this waste, but so far havo failed to gel it. Do the people think wearc in earnest when wo ask what has become of their money? We think they do, and that on the 10th of October they will give an answer in thunder tones to those tiuestions that wo havo been so long asking and to which the ring has failed to reply. Wo had intended to say something ;about nominations and a people's ticket of which they 6cem, and in our opinion with much cause, to stand in fear. It is bardiy to be supposed that tho peo ple will rest supinely in their easy chairs at home and let this corrupt ring secure an other two years lease of the puree of the county, without at least making eomo kind of a fight to secure economy in the county expenditures and a de cent rogard for the well-faro of the people in those elected to office by their suffrages. The time has not yet come, but when it does arrivo wo will speak to tho peo ple of Elk in words they can under stand, -and they will arise in their might nnd throw off this ring that is a worse incubus on their progress than was iSinbad the Sailor's '-Old man of tho Sea" to him. For Judge. Hon. II. W. Williams is the unanimous choice for President Judge of this District. Tigoa voted (Crawford county system) last week, .and he received about fourteen hun dred majority over Mr. Seymour, of "Tioga. This part of the district has, we believe, chosen delegates favorable io Mr. Williams' nomination, and bo will receive the unanimous nomination of the convention. Judge White withdrew from the con test two weeks ago, and endeavored to make the people believe they wanted Mr. Seymour, but the people "couldn't ;8ee it." Cameron Press. ' EOOES AND EYES. U is ono of the most remarkable facts of this reniarkablo ntre. not that no tnanv pt'rsnns are the viotimH of dyppopsiaor In digestion, but its willing victims. Now, we would not be understood to gay that any one regards dyspepsia with favor, or feels disposed to rank it among tho luxuries of lite. Far from it. Those who have ex perienced its torments would scout ouch nn idea. All dread it, and would gladly dis pense with its unpleasant familiarities. Mark Taploy. who was jnlly under till the trying circumstances in which he was placed, never hal nn attack of dyspepsia, or his jolity would have speedily forsaken him. Of all tho multifarious diseases to which (ho human system is liable, there is perhaps no one eo genernlly prevalent ns dyspepsia. There are disoiscs more acute and painful, and which more frequently prove fatal, but nono the etr'oots of which are so depressing to the mind nnd bo positively distressing to (ho bod. If there is a wretched being in tho world it is r A CONFIRMED DYSPEPTIC. We have said that dyspepsia is perhaps the most universal of human diseases. This is imphntically the case in tho United States. Whether this general prevalence is due to the character of the food, the method of its preparation, or the hasty manner in whioh it is usually swallowed, is not our province to explain. Tho grevt foot, with which wo are called to deal is this: DYSPEPSIA PREVAILS almost uuivci sally. Nearly every other person you meet is a victim, nn apparently willing one: were this not the case, why so manv sufferers. when a certain, speedy and safe remedy is wiihin the easy rench of all who will avail themselves of it? Dut says a dys peptic: What is this remedy? to whioh we reply: This great allevator of humaD suffering is almost as widely known as the English language. It has allayed the agonies of thousands, and is to-day carry comfort and encouragement to thousands of others. This acknowledged panacea is note oilier than Dr. IIOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS Would you know more of the merits of this wonderful prcpatation than can be learned from the experience of others? Try it yourself, and wheu it has failed to fullil tho assurance of its efficacy givon by the proprietor, then abandon faith in it. LET IT BE REMEMBERED, first of all, that HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS is not arum beverage. They are composed wholly of the pure juice or vital principle of roots. This is not a mere assertion The extracts from which they are compounded are prepared by one of the ablest of Herman chemists. Their effects can bo beneficial only in all cases of the billiary tystem. Hoolland's German Hitters stand without an equal, acting promptly and vigorously upon tho liver; iney remove its torpidity ana cause health ful secretion of bile thereby supplying tho stomach with the most indispensable elements of sound digestion in proper pro portions. They purify tho blood, cleansing the vital fluid of all hurtful impurities aud su planting thein with the elements of genuine hcaltht'ulncss. Now, there are certain classes ot per sons to whom extreme Bitters are not only uupalatablc, but who find it impossible to take tliein without positive discomfort. For such Dr. HOOFLAND'S GERMAN TOXIC has been specially prepared. It is intended for use whero a slight a'coholio stimulant is rcquirol in connection with the well known Tonic properties of the pure Ger- mau liitters. HOOFLAND'S TONIC acts with almost marvelous effect. It not uly stimulates tho flagging and wasting energies, but luvigorales and permanently treugthens its action upon the Liver and stomach thorough, perhaps less prompt than the Bitters, when tno same uantitj is taken is none t lie less certain. Indigestion, Iiilliousness, Physical or Ner vous prostration, yield readily to its po- ent influence. It gives the invalid a new and stronger hold upon life, removes de pression of spirit, and inspires cheerful ness. But. Dr. Hoofland's benefactions to he human race nre not confined to his celebrated GERMAN BITTERS, or his invaluable Tosic. He has prepared an other medicine, which is rapidly winning its way to populur favor because of its in trinsic mctils. Tins it HOOFLAND'S PODOPHVLLIN PILLS, a perfect substi tute for mercury without any of mercury's evil qualities. These wonderful Pills, which are Intend ed to act upon the Liver, are inaiuly com posed or l'ouophylliu, or the vital princi ple of the mandrake root. It is the medi cinal virtues of this health-giving plant, in a perfectly pure nnd highly concentrated lor in. lhe 1 odophyllin acts directly on the Liver, stimulating its functions and causing it to make its billiary secretions in regular aud proper quantities. The inju rious results which invariably follow the use of mercury is entirely avoided by their use. But it is not upon tho Liver only that their powers are exerted. The extract of Mandrake contained in them is skillfully combined with four other ex- racts, one of which acts upon the stomach, one upon the upper bowels, one upou the lower boweU. and prevents any griping effect, thus producing a pill that influences tho entire digestive and alimentary system, in an equal and harmonious manner, and its action entirely froo from nausea, vomit ing or griping pains common to all other purgatives. Possessing heso much desirable qualities the rodophyllii becomes invaluable as a FAMILY MEDICINE, No household should be without them. They nre perfectly safe, require but two for an ordinary dose, are prompt and em oient in action, and when used in oonneo. tion with Dr. Iloonand g German Bitters, or Tonio, may be regarded as certain spe cifics in all cases of Liver Complaint, Dys pspsia, or any of the disorders to whioh the system is ordidarly subject. The rODOPllYLLIN PILLS act upon the stomach and bowels, carrying off improper obstructions, while the Bitters or Tunio purify the blood, strengthen and invigorate the fntne, give tone and apps tile to the stomach, and thus build up the invalid anew. Dr. Hooliand, having provided internal remedies for diseaso, has given the world one mainly for external application, in the wonderful preparation known Db. HOOFLAND'S GREEK OIL, This Oil is a sovereign remedy for pains and aches or all kinds. Rheumatism, Neuralgia, Toothache, Chilblains, Sprains, Burns, Pain in t' e Back and Loins, Ringworms, etc., etc., all yield to its external application. Taken internally, it is a cure for Heart burns, Kidney Diseases, Sick Headaches, Colio, Dysentery, Cholera Morbus, Cramps, Pains in the Stomach, Colds, Asthma, eto These remedies will be sent by express to any locality, upon application to th PRINCIPAL OFFICE, at the GERMAN MBIMCINK STORE, No. 631 ARCH ST PHILADELPHIA.
