We regret to learn that Mr. Kiiue's little daughter, aped about five years, had one finder cut entirely off, and others severely lacerated, in a straw cutting machine, on Wednesday- Accidents. On Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, John Hunger who was at work for W. Woodward, on Ker&cy Run, had his leg terribly fraeturcd by a (ailing tree. We know that other candidates are seeking tliis rflice, and it is probable, that seductive influences will be brought to bear an their favor. A New Town. We received a call the other day from L. Bird, the Surveyor, and Real Estate agent of the Lincoln Improve cieot Company, and Dodge & Co. lie io forms us that a new settlement is being tarted in a body of good f irming land at Lincoln, about ten iles from Driftwood, on the P. E. Railroad ; that over a hun dred acres have been cleared during the present year, and that good lands are of fered, to actual settlers only, at $3 to $5 an acre. II says he will be glad to see, or liear from any working farmers desiring to settle. Address, Driftwood, Pa. Jry Sh'tre YiJetle, The above uaraed lands si-e in the town of Bennezette, this county. They are ex. celled farming lands, heavily timbered, and very valuable. Dodge & Co., have up. ward of 10,000 acres of these nds, wbi;h when settled and improved will add greatly to the population and wealth of Elk county, ELK COTOTT. The vast wealth of this county is scarcely known or appreciated, even by our own citizens. Resides the vast timber lands, we have coal in abundance which when fully developed will make this one of the most important counties in the State. Wo give a brief synopsis of the develop ment of the coal : Tannehdalk Coat, Co. The colliery of the company is situated on tho south side of the P. &. E. Railway, their mines east of'St. Marys. The lands of the Com pany comprise 200 acres, all underlaid with valuable coal, well adapted for steam pur poses, good as a grate coal, as well as for the manufacture of gas. The mines have the capacity, with the present open ings, to deliver several hundred tons daily. St. Marys Mines. The mine in opera tion, is situated near the P. & E. Railway, one mile cast of St. Marys. The tanas of the company comprise 800 acres, situated on both sides of the P. & E. Road, and are owned by capitalists of Williamsport The colliery is under the superintendence of Joseph Fatten. It was opened four years ago. The colliery, when in full operation can mine and ship 400 tons daily. Renzinoer Mines. These mines are owned and controlled by a Roston Com pany. Tho lands of tho Company comprise 990 acres. The larger por tion of these lauds arc underlaid with three coal scams. The openings arc reached by a railway, owned by the company, one third of a mile east of St. Marys. This company have everything in readiness to do a large business in mining coal. TOVY CUEKK AND PHILADELPHIA Co. This company has about 1000 acres of ooa! lauds located ut EarlyvMle, seven miles southerly from St. Marys. It is reached by the Daguscahonda Railway that forms a junction with the 1. & E. Road six miles east of Ridgway. The coal is clean, pure, and lustrous. Ker.skt Coat. Co. This company own about 500 sires, and reached by the Dagus. cahonda Road. The lands of this com pany have a fine show of coal, seven veins being found on the property The coal is compact in structure, and has proved to be uperior for steam purposes, as well as for fuel. DAorsrAnoxPA Improvement Co. The mines on the lauds of this company ire situated at the terminus ot the Dagus. cahonda Road, four miles from the P. & K. Road, with which it connects, five miles east of llidgway. The lands of this ompany comprise a tract of 2000 acres. SnuvMtrr Mines. The Shawm ut coal company owns a tract of about 7,000 acres t coal lauds, situated in Fox and New Ilorton townships. . There re several ex tensive collcries already opened on this company's lands, which are reached by a railway seventeen miles long, ownod by the company, which forms a junction with the P. & E. Road, two miles cast of Ridgway. The improvements for the convenience of 'he miners are superior to any of the coal mines in this section. - On these lands 'here are fi f'.ccn seams of coal. These seams are all pure, black and lustrous. The crtapany is doing a large business. Clarion River Coal Co. At Wil. niarth, and near Jnhnsnnburg, these lands aro situated, consisting of 1000 acres These mines have important improvements, which have cost about (00,000. There is a double side track from the P. Si E Road to the chu'es, a distance of about 1000 Cut. Simors AcrinitiiT. A little boy assisting his uncle, W, Williams in the Kersey Coal Company's mines on last Thursday night was mangled in a shocking manner by a portion o f the mine falling upon him. His right thigh and left band were seriously fractured. His right ear was almost torn off and from sever 1 other more severe injuries of the head inflana lion of the membranes of the brain are now the result, making his recovery very doubtful.
