gradually reduced—the ditty. down to ift per
cent. in 1839 and 1840, and the prices' rose

in Ireland, was not felt until 1849; and they

free in 1854, under, the Reciprocity Treaty,

of the anthracite trade. Taking off tile
duties will not affect the price Of. anthracil.
Its production is l limited, and in a very few
years it will be a luxury, like. some other .

which is limited. It is in the interest of out
struggling bituminous trade, and Mir home,
industry, whichstquires cheap fuel, and the
development of our coal regions is the only
sure method of securing ft in abundance and
