THE Pangions : r AND CHSGREES.—Senator
[lnward, of Michigan, - has written a letter
ort the situation, which is published. In re
ferring to the threats of the Washington
Union, that the .Senitors who have declared
•their convictions beforehand. shall not sit, in
judgment upon President Johnson, Mr. How:
aril says 4•lt is generally understood that
the Union is under the patronage and Control
of Mr: Johnson and his immediate ndvisms,
and that in view Or the military preparatkms
now going on - ln Maryland and other , Suttee,
such 'threats can hardly be regarded as mere
ly buncombe, but the original purpose of the
Preaident to attempt violence upon Congress
has, become deepened and • intensified under
the malign influence of his private advisers ."
311 r. Howard continues to say that Congress
wilt do its duty: regardless of these revoln
:tionary preparations, and adds : "Let him be
Aare of that, and it rests with the people and
the army to Protect it in so doing. - If the
rebels arid the. rebel sympathtzers - have not,
bad enough strife , and blood, they can, in my
opinion, become easily satiated. by stirring up
'Johnson to assault Congress by militarYvio
knee, and, indeed, I am not sure in the long
run such a mad attempt • would not,:as.lead
ing to the final arid conciasive supprenalott of

• The actual cost of .transportation on the
