DIAISCTIOSS 70R.THE . Iska 186 G.—The year
1866 will be a very, eventful one to' every
maiden who gets married.
Throughout: the whole course of -the year
whenever the moon wanes. the nights will
grow dark.
If dandies wear their beards there will be
less work for barbers. He who wears his
moustache will have something to sneeze - at.
Whoever is in love this year will think his
mistress an angel. • Whoever gets married
will And out whether it is true..
He that loses his hair this year will grow
Ile that loses his wife will become a acid
If a young lady should happen to blush she
will look red in the face. If she dreams of a
youniman three nights in succession, it is a
sign of something.,. Ifshe dreams of him four
times, and has a toothache, ..it is ten to' one
that she is a long time getting either of them
out of her head.
If anybody . y_ jumps overboird without know
ing hoW to switn, it is two, to one, he gets
drowned. . • •
if any one lenda an Umbrella, it is ten, to
one be is obliged to go home in the rain fo?
his pains. -
Whoever runs in debt thine year win •be.
dunned
Many an old sinner , will: resolve to turn
over a new leat this year, but the new lea
will turn out blank.
It is • probable that if there is no business
doing, people will complain of hard times. but
it is certain that those who hang themselves
escspe starving to death.
He that _bites off his nose, or turns politi
eian, will act like a fool, and this is the mos
certain of all.
A RKPORIIED MAN.----Old Billy Smith kept
a small store in one of the interior towns of
Massachusetts. was the rendezvous of
all the loafers in the village. These fellows
used to be there every night, playing poker,
generally with the old mane clerk. Old Bil

down on them suddenly one night; and be
fore they could hide themselves, Newish
got "Jesse," but was forgiven, promising to
sin no more. •
"Nerniah," said Billy, "never let a soul in
after eight o'clock." • ,
licruish promised obedience: Next night
the crowd was at work as usual, and Billy
thought he would go down and see how
things went on. Accordingly he .went and
,knocked at -the door,
"Who's there," cried Nerniab.
"It's me, Mr. -=--.,open the 'door." - .
"No, Billy told me never to let any' one

Billy waited to hear no more, but started
oft like the wind, confident that Nemiah was
