OLERS.—The Commissioner. of Custom has
received intelligence of the detection and ar- I
rest of a party—of fenitile fflituggleri
Canada frontier,engaged in the whiskey traf
fic. A few days since the revejme detectives
on a train coming from Canada had their sus-1
picions aroused, b 1 the unusual number ofwo
men and babies On board, ,and netielt&that
out of thirty-two babies but two evinced the
ordinary sigris of animation. On arriving at
a station on this side of the river, where sev
eral of the suspicious females left the train,
the deteetiies with their usual : courtesy, in
slated. on -bolding the "baby" 'until the lady
alighted, and at once discovered that it was
uncommonly. heavy. An investigation im
mediately took place, when the "baby" . 'was
found to be manufactured 'of tin, and to con•
fain from three to five gallons of whiskey.
These - "babies" were ingeniously constructed,
and so clothed as to exhibit a tiny foot and
ankle, encased in red shoes and white stock
ings. The Commissioner of c o stool, is ma
